My kid (7) just popped a 106.7 fever. Back in the day that was an immediate trip to the emergency room. Now it's a phone call, a cold bath, and some juice and tylenol. Jeezaloo. Send all your good thoughts, vibes, and prayers please ❤️

@RedPencilScript I called mine just to see and was told to call an ambulance if we didn’t feel comfortable getting him to an ER as fast as humanly possible. You may have gotten some bad advice.

@RedPencilScript One of my children, whenever she gets a fever, it is ALWAYS that high. The others never get fevers that high no matter how ill they get. I feel like some kids are just more susceptible to high fevers while others are not. Hope it comes down with the meds! Poor little thing.

@RedPencilScript @retired_in_tx If the body is trying to fight off an infection with a high fever...shouldn't the medical profession be trying to find the SOURCE OF THE INFECTION?? "Let's lower the fever so there is less chance of fighting infection!" This. Makes. No. Sense. At the very least: CBC & cultures.

@RedPencilScript 106 usually signifies a massive infection. Every time my daughter ran that high it was a damaging level kidney infection. I know most doctors now know to let lower grade fevers burn out but hyperpyrexia will always have an underlying reason that can quickly become dangerous.

@RedPencilScript Sorry but that’s an ER trip in any day. Could be meningitis, the life-threatening strain of strep, or just a regular virus. It’s worth the inconvenience and the hospital bill to find out.

@RedPencilScript I was told 104 is limit and would take to ER. My child had a fever of 103.9 once and very scary. Cool baths and medicine. If it had gone to 104 would have taken her to ER why risk it?? What's the point?

@RedPencilScript In my world, that's a trip to the ER. A fever over 105 F in a child of any age should go to the ER.

@RedPencilScript For an unknown cause? The ER would be looking for infection and running full labs immediately. If my doctor advised this over the phone without a physical exam or labs, I would go to the ER first and get another doctor second. I don't understand this protocol at all.

@RedPencilScript Do NOT put them in a cold bath. That stresses the body and drives the fever higher but inducing peripheral vasoconstriction. Prevent shivers, keep warm with loose clothing and Tylenol

@RedPencilScript Missing, Ellie, is a diagnosis. A fever that high is no good in anyone, but especially not good in children. In the hospital, we covered peds fever pts in ice & we'd give acetyl salicylic acid (aspirin). But what's the cause? Perhaps an antibiotic is needed. ?? HBorel,RN,PhD

@RedPencilScript Are you also qualified to determine what caused a 106.7 fever? My son had 106.2 and we went to ER. He was admitted with pneumonia. 5 days in the hospital.

@RedPencilScript if its still that high after tylenol, in actuality its probably a lot higher, so if its like that for more than 24 hours, don't wait around. 🙏🙏
