coinbase ceo complaining about fake work
Brian Armstrong@brian_armstrong

It’s an unfortunate reality that much of science is fake work. Results that won’t replicate, papers of no consequence, even entirely fake disciplines. We would benefit from more scientists working on higher risk, higher reward breakthroughs that could translate into real products, and seeing real financial upside in those inventions. Still thinking through but would be great if @researchhub could help align incentives here, and replace the tech transfer office with a one click commercial license (as one example). Would be great to replace todays false economy in science of tenure and citations, with market based incentives. Yes basic research has an important place, but the more connected to downstream reality it is the better. The real test of whether it ends up helping people is whether they are willing to part with their hard earned cash to get it (or something derived from it).

On Sept. 11, 1973 Salvador Allende, Chile’s democratically elected president, was overthrown by a military coup backed by the U.S. which ushered in a fascist government and the loss of thousands of Chilean lives. Today, we honor the memory of Salvador Allende.
