@100Covers @elvis_wiki @ElvisCostello There was also another bunch of tunes he chose on Radio 1 - think it might’ve been that Andy Pebbles my top ten thing. Had three absolute classics in there…
Jesse Winchester - Skip Rope Song
Charlie Rich - Feel Like Going Home (demo version - the best)
Leon Russell - Tight Rope

In April 1982 @elviscostello played some of his favourite songs on Capital Radio. I wrote down the titles at the time and now here’s a playlist of them @elvis_wiki

@elvis_wiki @ElvisCostello Interesting to compare with this from a few months earlier. The ECIS mag has the full transcript of this show. Probably on the wiki somewhere but let me know if you want that.

English

@elvis_wiki @ElvisCostello No sorry I can’t remember. If only I’d recorded it!

@BeatlemaniaUK Was or is? It was Ob-La-Di etc when I was 8. But 57 years on it’s probably Julia.

@elvis_wiki @ElvisCostello Like the instruction at the top of the page there to “cut out and keep”!

@elvis_wiki @ElvisCostello I recall a similar radio show where he reviewed new releases. One of them was a reissue of the Chi-Lites’ Have You Seen Her. Looking at Music Week, that single was reissued in June 84 so I wonder if it was the interview on Capital you have for 1984-06-?

@100Covers @ElvisCostello Great, thank you.

Love this 7” 45 by @ElvisCostello and the @MichaelLeonhart Orchestra. Can’t see it in the @elvis_wiki singles discography though? 🤔

English

@govauctionnews Yes! And is that the Strawbs’ From the Witchwood at the top?
English

@100Covers So you can! And I reckon Spirit's Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus is above it.
English

I can make out Fire and Water by Free, Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens, Who's Next by The Who and the first Santana album: pretty good selection, really.

@govauctionnews And you can just see the edge of Kevin Ayers’ Joy of a Toy at the front.

And Roy Wood. Always Roy Wood.

Performers on Top Of The Pops, 1969-71, about whom next day at skool everyone was talking: Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull, completely insane yet deliriously cheerful), Gilbert O'Sullivan (weird 1920s look), Marc Bolan (his big face, glitter tears). See also: Ron Mael (1974, Hitler)
