The federal government’s workforce is shrinking at a historic pace: The federal government shed -18,000 jobs in March, down to 2.66 million, the lowest since 1966. This marks the 14th consecutive monthly decline. Since the beginning of 2025, the federal government has cut -352,000 jobs, reducing its workforce by nearly -12%. As a % of total employment, federal jobs are down to 1.67%, the lowest on record. By comparison, in the 1960s, this percentage averaged 4.2%. The federal workforce has never been this small.

UnitedHealth jumped 11% today after CMS finalized 2027 Medicare Advantage rates with a 2.48% increase, $13 billion more than what insurers got last year. The January proposal was nearly flat. The final number was 2.5x higher. That's how Washington works. Propose low, finalize high, and let the lobbyists fill in the gap. Medicare spending is already one of the biggest contributors to the federal deficit. This just made it bigger.

Renewable energy systems are intended to reduce your electric bills because they are supposedly cheaper than fossil fuels and nuclear power. But in California, the exact opposite is happening. As more solar and wind are added to their electric grid, the more expensive residential electricity prices have become. The data in the chart is inflation-adjusted to 2024 USD. That might not be because of solar and wind, but it clearly isn’t working to reduce costs. It doesn’t make a difference when your government taxes the shit out of consumers.

@MidwesternDoc what a waste of money. Doing something we did 50 years ago. No new discovery. It's a photo opportunity to showcase how "valuable" NASA is.

It's kind of crazy we were doing the first manned moon flyby in over 50 years and virtually no one I know is aware it's even happening.
