Ridiculing airborne precautions during a SARS pandemic advertises more than ignorance about hygiene and infection biology - it reveals a comfort with preventable harm. It’s one thing to be unable to care for others. It’s another to make a spectacle of not caring.

“doctor bashing” but it’s just patients sharing their lived experiences of mistreatment & abuse at the hands of medical doctors whom society have already deemed infallible gods whose words & opinions are actually law, so sayeth the lord

You try every trick to make your appointments go smoothly. You prepare for them like they’re job interviews. More & more you put them off as you can’t handle the psychic devastation. Just the thought of calling to schedule triggers emotional flashbacks, so you dissociate instead

@notaproviderMD @snowanaya1 This is an example of doctors prioritizing their egos and refusing to listen to disabled people! You're doing it right here.

I'm seeing a trend of posts like this. Most physicians don't object to your self-diagnosis and treatment plan because of a need to be right. Posters seem to ignore the fact that the person prescribing their medication of choice assumes the liability of an incorrect diagnosis and any resultimg harm of a recommended treatment. The best solution is to allow more meds to be available without prescription, not create a world where physicians bow down to their every whim amd demand of patients.
Julia Marie@julia_doubleday

You can’t go in being like “I’m having migraines and I’ve seen that the first line medication intervention for migraines is triptans so I’d like to try that”, many drs won’t LIKE THAT. You have to go “oh nooo my heeeaddd hurtttsss what do i dooo”

There are way too many people who actually, literally believe that medical doctors behave like House when in actuality they take one look at you, refuse to do any tests, and tell you it's all anxiety or that you're too fat.

I'm not gonna lie. It's frustrating when you ask a doctor for help, but because their ego is slightly more fragile than an ice cream cone, you have to pretend you're incapable of pattern recognition and only got uploaded into your body the day before.
Jonathan@jabberwock951

I'm not gonna lie, it is frustrating when you ask a patient what's wrong and they just give you a diagnosis. Like "I have a chest infection". OK, you're probably right but I need to know your symptoms to see if I agree with that diagnosis. I can't just take your word for it.

@pot8um When I declined to take my mask off at a doc appt bc I acquired the infection that disabled me at a doc appt where I had to unmask for a scope, the doc rolled his eyes. “You didn’t get Covid in a doctor’s office.” We’re back to the “a gentleman’s hands are never unclean” era.

patients online: doctors are frequently dismissive and sometimes outright derisive doctors online, without a hint of irony: you don’t know what you’re talking about

Not just this, but they get a very similar institutional protection for violence as cops. There's a similar pattern where there's less consequences if they're violent towards you, but there's far more consequences if you're violent towards them as opposed to anyone else.
Nikkole 🐝@nhughesoly

Doctors are like cops in that they, either directly or through negligence, kill disabled and Mad folks every damn day yet expect us to treat them with deference.

How come none of you will spend any time reading any of the 400k papers on this virus? How do you sit here & think that a virus that causes immune, brain, organ, mitochondrial, endothelial, & nervous system damage is not going to have lasting, varied, long term effects on people?

Why is that when Doctors can't reach a diagnosis the default diagnosis then becomes the patient is making it up or is hypochondriacal? What about "I don't know enough?" which in my and many others experience is almost always the correct diagnosis?

Doctors thought asthma was a psychosomatic, attention-seeking behavior caused by skittish children having too much maternal attention until the middle of the 20th century. This douche would've 100% agreed. He might still.

@CoffeeBlackMD Long Covid patients often do have pre-existing conditions - it's part of the etiology of the disease, not evidence it’s psychiatric.

You know what’s actually overdiagnosed? Anxiety. Let’s talk about that, because without that label, doctors wouldn’t have a way to dismiss and control patients. It’s a modern-day hysteria diagnosis.

Lately, I've been conceptualizing the response most people had to COVID in 2020 (both in actions and words) as them participating in a trend, and the way they act now makes a lot of sense in that framework.

Imagine a doctor refusing to diagnose you with a condition for which you have the symptoms, because the doctor believes the condition is rare, and therefore there's an imaginary quota on how many people are allowed be diagnosed with that, and you're not one of those people.
