Not really, and no it wasn't. All major, and even minor, civilisations around the time would have had the same issues. The only place that really wouldnt have smelt like shit would have been the irrigated mountain palace of Grenada, but even then the larger would reek. All life stunk back then. Its only in the past 100-200 years that cities have began to smell nicer
