The Lugave Clan. According to Buganda history, Mukiibi Ssebuko Ssalongo played a crucial role in the formation of the Buganda Kingdom. As the head of the Lugave Clan, he stood against the tyranny of Bemba, a ruthless invader from Kiziba who had conquered Buganda. When Mukiibi rebelled, Bemba seized his land and forced him into exile on the Ssese Islands with his followers. While in exile, Mukiibi learned of Kintu’s plan to overthrow Bemba and reclaim Buganda. Seeing an opportunity to restore his people’s honor, he joined Kintu’s forces, bringing skilled warriors like Kigave and Nfudu. Their combined strength led to a victorious battle, where Bemba was captured and beheaded, securing Kintu’s place as the first Kabaka (king) of Buganda. As a token of gratitude, Kintu granted Mukiibi and his descendants the privilege to choose prime land anywhere in Buganda, marking their settlements with fig trees (Mituba) as a sign of ownership. This explains why Lugave Clan members are found across the kingdom today. Mukiibi’s sons were also honored, with one becoming the first Katikkiro (prime minister), the highest non-royal position in Buganda. In his later years, Mukiibi found solace in hunting and eventually settled in Ssekiwunga near Katende, Mawokota. Enchanted by the land, he declared, “Wano we ndigwa”—“This is where I will finally rest.” His title evolved into Ndugwa, now the official title of the Lugave Clan head, with the clan’s main shrine still located at Katende. #tribe56

🚨NEW‼️ A journey through Ankole isn’t complete without uncovering the hidden stories along the way ✨ On our way back from the #ExploreAnkole campaign, we made a stopover in Mbaale Hill, located in Mpigi town home to the legendary Kibuuka Omumbaale, a mythical God of war from the 16th century, famously known as the flying soldier who stood against Bunyoro. This sacred site, where he was laid to rest, is truly a cultural gem worth exploring. For just 10,000 UGX, you get to dive deep into rich history, heritage, and powerful legends of Buganda. Sometimes, the best travel experiences are the stories we discover along the road 🇺🇬✨

I’ve spent the last 8 months in the cocoa export space, facilitating and watching tonnes of beans leave our country and for about 6 months , it felt like progress. Containers moving, deals closing, numbers growing. But the more you sit in that space, the more one question refuses to leave your mind where is the real value going? Because it’s not staying with us. We do the hard part. We grow the cocoa, we harvest, we ferment, we dry… and then we export it. Somewhere else, that same cocoa becomes chocolate bars, cocoa powder, cosmetics, brands products that sell for many times what we earned from the raw beans. That gap is where the real opportunity is and it’s the gap we’ve normalized for too long. When you look at the coffee sector, you start to see a different story emerging. People like @JackieAkampwera of @JadaCoffee and brands like @volcanocoffee1 Coffee led by @GKatabazi , @harvestrumEdge Coffee and @KBarigye made a decision not to stop at the farm gate. They went further into roasting, branding, packaging and building experiences people are willing to pay for. That shift is changing everything in the coffee sector . It created jobs, built identity and most importantly retained value. And I keep asking myself why not cocoa? This is where I am now. After working in exports, I’m turning part of my time and capital to domestic cocoa value addition. Not as an idea but as something practical we can start building immediately. It won’t be perfect. It won’t be big at the start. But it will be ours. I’m looking for young people who are ready to step into this space food scientists who understand processing, creatives who can shape products and anyone willing to invest time, skill or resources into building something meaningful. The plan is : I start by providing about 5tns of cocoa to the team for trial purposes , we learn by doing, we refine the process and we grow from there. Because this is bigger than just a business idea. It’s about shifting how we think. We cannot keep exporting raw potential and importing finished success. We’ve seen what is possible with coffee. Now it’s time to do the same or even better with cocoa. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to build something real this might be it. Let’s create value where it starts. For God and my country

Powerful community stories go beyond what is visible. The dances, landscapes and crafts are just the surface. Real storytelling comes from listening, understanding knowledge and showing the deep connection between people, land, and culture. #hildaontravel

There’s a quiet shift in tourism, travelers are moving beyond destinations, seeking meaning, connection and real stories. Communities like Mosopisyek offer lived culture not performance. The future belongs to those who respect and preserve culture not just showcase it. #tribe56
