Upon my directive, a team from the Ministry visited Ocean Bay Estate, Agungi, today to assess the flooding situation within the estate. It was observed that the estate relies on two (2) stormwater pumping machines to evacuate runoff from its internal drainage network, as portions of the estate’s street drainage system are situated at levels lower than the adjacent external drainage channels. During the inspection, it was confirmed that one of the major stormwater pumps is currently faulty and non-operational. Consequently, the estate’s pumping capacity has been significantly reduced, resulting in inadequate evacuation of stormwater and the flooding presently being experienced within the estate. The malfunctioning pump is therefore considered a major contributing factor to the flooding incident observed in the estate. However, the estate management informed the inspection team that the faulty pump has already been repaired and is scheduled to be reinstalled and returned to operation tomorrow. It is expected that the restoration of the pump will significantly improve the estate’s stormwater evacuation capacity and help alleviate the current flooding condition.
