With a view so stunning words don't do it justice, E. S. Russell captures 4300 4377 as it leaves Berwyn for Barmouth in September 1955. Farther down the River Dee can be made out the Robertson Chain Bridge, which survives along with the station as part of the Llangollen Railway.

In the company of much younger Austin 7s, Hughes 6 50777 settles in at Sowerby Bridge Shed in 1955, having been a Lostock Hall engine before June 1954. One of the last built with short frames under Aspinall, 50777 had been rebuilt with a superheated Belpaire boiler under Hughes.

Well-worn but expected given its age of over 75 years, Aspinall 23 51381 takes a break from shunting at Sowerby Bridge Shed in April 1955. Built in January 1880 as a Barton Wright 25, it had been rebuilt by Aspinall in December 1894 & reboilered under Hughes in April 1914.
