Yesterday, I had the privilege of being interviewed by The New York Times regarding the recent "Signal Leak" controversy—a topic that strikes at the very heart of Operational Security, or OPSEC. Protecting the safety and success of our men and women in uniform is not a matter of politics; it is a question of competence, professionalism, and above all, trust. Trust that our military leadership adheres to the same high standards they expect of their troops, and that “they have their backs”. Mistakes happen in any organization, but allowing a journalist access to real-time battle plans is not just a mistake—it is a breach of the fundamental principles of security and accountability. As a proud veteran of the U.S. military, I believe in admitting errors, learning from them, and striving for constant improvement. This is how we honor the values of professionalism and dedication that define our armed forces. This is how we keep our people safe and make sure they all come home from our missions. I was recently interviewed by Adam Peters, founder of a podcast, newsletter, and community called “The Strategic Veteran”, which is creating an environment that supports vets to ensure their transition to civilian life is smooth and frictionless as possible.  I was able to share some experiences of how I helped start and build Afterburner Seminars, a well known management training company. I spoke about “life on the line” flying 737’s as a United Airlines Pilot, as well as my experience flying an F-16 in homeland defense missions over New York City after the terrorist attacks on 9/11. #F35Crash #MilitarySafety #AnchorageNews An F-35A Lightning II aircraft crashed in Alaska at Eielson Air Force Base on January 28th. Fortunately, the pilot was able to eject and was later evaluated at a hospital and released. Fairly shortly after the crash, a journalist from NBC Anchorage (“Alaska’s News Source”) contacted me and conducted an interview on my thoughts as to how an investigation of this crash was likely to proceed. The reporter also wanted to understand how a “Chain of Events” can lead to aviation accidents and my opinion on what might have happened in this case.
