🧵THREAD: The Supreme Court ruled today that drawing a congressional district to give Black voters fair representation is unconstitutional racial discrimination. The Court did not rule that drawing a district to take Black voters' representation away is unconstitutional racial discrimination. That is the actual ruling. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Supreme Court struck down Louisiana's congressional map. The map created two majority-Black districts in a state where Black Americans make up roughly one third of the population. The Court ruled that the second majority-Black district was an "unconstitutional racial gerrymander." Justice Samuel Alito wrote the majority opinion. Now I want to walk you through what this actually means.

He murdered Renee Nicole Good. Shot her three times and then called her a “f*cking b*tch”. Her last words? “It’s ok dude I’m not mad”. He got three days administrative leave before being transferred to another state. No punishment. No accountability. No justice.

There is growing anger in Lebanon regarding the prospect of any kind of peace talks as I$rael continues to kill Lebanese civilians at will and with impunity. “Yesterday, Israel, in collaboration with the Lebanese state, murdered my dearest friend, my loyal companion, and my lifelong friend, Mariam Bahja. May the highest authority in the Lebanese state be damned if it thinks it can make peace with those who murdered Mariam and her family. May God curse all those who conspired against us, made our blood permissible to spill, and justified the murder.”

🦔Nvidia's VP of applied deep learning told Axios that for his team, the cost of compute is far beyond the cost of employees. An MIT study found AI automation is economically viable in only 23% of roles where vision is a primary part of the work, meaning human labor remains cheaper in the vast majority of cases. Uber's CTO said he's back to the drawing board because his 2026 AI budget is already blown. AI software fees have increased 20% to 37% over the past year. Despite all of this, Big Tech has announced $740 billion in capital expenditures for AI this year, a 69% increase from 2025, while laying off more than 92,000 tech workers. My Take The core contradiction of the AI moment is now being stated openly by people inside the industry. Companies are cutting human workers who are cheaper than the AI replacing them, to fund AI infrastructure that isn't generating measurable productivity returns, financed by investors who are also funding the AI companies selling the tokens at prices those companies cannot sustain without continued subsidy. My honest read is that the workforce decisions being made right now are irreversible on a timeline the technology cannot meet. The entry-level pipeline being dismantled today will take a decade to rebuild. The engineers being cut to fund token budgets that exceed their salaries are the same people who would catch the failures when the AI gets it wrong. Companies are making permanent structural changes based on a cost structure that doesn't exist yet and a productivity case that by their own executives' admission hasn't materialized. At some point the distance between the bet and the reality has to close, and the people who absorbed the cost of being wrong won't be the ones who made the decision. Hedgie🤗

Russ Vought is changing federal worker performance reviews to limit who can get the best ratings. Then he wants to base layoffs on those reviews, while exempting political appointees from the process. The result: more MAGA embeds in government. prospect.org/2026/04/29/rus…

Hilariously, when you actually read this FT article 👇 one of the main "national security problems for Europe" that could be "posed by Chinese green technology" is, quote: "that the US could demand Europe remove Chinese technology from its energy systems — or face tariffs, sanctions or reduced security commitments." In other words, a risk that has literally nothing to do with China but everything to do with the US's chokehold on European sovereignty.

Justice Kagan: "I dissent. The Voting Rights Act is—or, now more accurately, was—'one of the most consequential, efficacious, and amply justified exercises of federal legislative power in our Nation's history.' It was born of the literal blood of Union soldiers and civil rights marchers. It ushered in awe-inspiring change, bringing this Nation closer to fulfilling the ideals of democracy and racial equality. And it has been repeatedly, and overwhelmingly, reauthorized by the people's representatives in Congress. Only they have the right to say it is no longer needed—not the Members of this Court. I dissent, then, from this latest chapter in the majority's now-completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act."

Israeli authorities ordered 42 Palestinians in Batn al-Hawa, half of them children, out by 17 May. Properties are set to be handed to settler group Ateret Cohanim. An occupying power cannot remove protected persons except in limited circumstances. This is forcible transfer.

🚨BREAKING: ICE agents just kidnapped 2 high school students as they waited for their school bus. Max is 15. Israel is 18. They were standing outside their home in Mississippi, waiting for the bus like any normal morning, when unmarked cars pulled up, surrounded them, and agents zip-tied them in front of their family and classmates. These kids were in the U.S. on student visas. Their host family had legal guardianship paperwork signed by a judge… and ICE agents shrugged and said it “meant nothing.” That’s where we are… paperwork signed by a judge means nothing, and a bureaucratic technicality is enough to justify armed agents grabbing unaccompanied TEENAGERS off the street. Because that’s what this comes down to. A school transfer. Somewhere in that process, their visa status changed without them knowing, without their guardians being notified, and without any chance to fix it. In any system that respects due process, you get a notice, you get time to respond, you get a chance to correct the issue. This administration skipped all of that and went straight to detention. And then they separated them. A 15-year-old child taken away from his legal guardians, moved out of state, and for days, his family didn’t even know where he was. So, let’s be honest about what this administration is doing… They are creating a system where your legal status can disappear without warning, where you can be detained before you even know there’s a problem, and where families can be separated instantly with no transparency, and no accountability. That is a direct erosion of due process, and it should alarm anyone who understands what constitutional protections are supposed to mean. Two kids went outside to wait for the bus… and this administration decided to kidnap them.

Wilfredo is 10 years old. Last week, he represented himself in immigration court. His mother, Nexoli, was detained in Houston and has been locked up and away from her son since December. Now, DHS wants to send him to Ecuador—a place he has never been and knows no one. Nexoli has a work permit and was trying to do everything the right way. ICE must release her and stop its case to deport Wilfredo immediately. He should be treated like a kid—not a criminal.
