This trend is dangerous and should concern all stakeholders committed to preserving democratic norms.

In saner climes, statements of this nature would attract immediate scrutiny, if not formal inquiry by the relevant authorities. Public office demands discipline, respect, and a measured tone, none of which were evident here.
