Today, following Iran’s resumption of attacks on international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned an Iranian financial facilitator who has effectively institutionalized large‑scale embezzlement within the Iranian regime, diverting publicly funded wealth offshore. OFAC today also targeted key Iranian exchange houses that move billions of dollars annually on behalf of sanctioned Iranian banks.

The so-called Supreme Leader is hiding in seclusion while his regime crumbles. Treasury will continue using every tool at its disposal to isolate him and other regime elites from the global financial system. We will preserve these assets for the Iranian people.

While ordinary Iranians face inflation and shortages, the regime’s elites loot billions. The U.S. is cutting off Iran's ruling elite’s financial lifelines. We've sanctioned three Iran-based currency exchange networks and Dubai-based Ali Ansari, who built a global real estate empire for Supreme Leader Khamenei.

Removing Syria from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism triggers a 45-day Congressional review. Congress must now carefully examine the basis for the removal and ensure Syria has completely ended its support for terrorism, no longer facilitates Iranian arms shipments to Hezbollah, is committed to stability along its border with Israel, and is respecting the rights of Syria’s minority communities, including the Druze. The president and Congress must make clear that sanctions will be reimposed if the Syrian government and President al-Sharra don’t live up to American expectations.
