US–Israeli strike damages major Shia religious site in Iran —— A US–Israeli strike in Zanjan has damaged parts of the historic, Hosseiniyeh Azam, including its golden dome and minaret, according to images released by Fars News Agency and emergency services. Following early morning US-Israeli attacks on Zanjan, three people lost their lives and several were injured, according to Press TV. Documentation from the Iranian Red Crescent also shows a nearby structure reduced to rubble. Built in 1878, Hosseiniyeh Azam (Grand Hosseiniyeh) is one of the most significant Shia religious centers in Iran and a major hub for mourning rituals dedicated to Imam Hussein. It hosts one of the largest Ashura processions in the country, drawing hundreds of thousands of participants annually, and is widely regarded within Iran as one of the most important congregational sites for mourning ceremonies after the shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala.
