I am tracking a weak cold front set to arrive on Monday with a few isolated storms, but behind the front fire weather threat will increase. This is due to very dry air and gusts 25-30 mph. I wouldn't be shocked if a fire weather watch is issued as early as tomorrow for Tuesday.

Wild footage shows a fisherman surrounded by sharks in a “feeding frenzy” off the coast of North Carolina. He said he was riding his personal watercraft near Cape Hatteras when he spotted what he thought was a small group of sharks feeding on a large school of baitfish. As he moved closer to film, a much larger group of sharks suddenly surfaced around him. He made it out safely and said, “It was a wild moment to see!”

WINK Weather Watcher Ken Skelton captured these photos from Bonita Springs showing lots of sargassum washing up on the beach. Sargassum is a type of floating brown seaweed that grows in the open ocean and provides habitat for marine life. When winds and currents push it toward shore, it can wash up in large amounts.

While walking the dozer lines at the Picayune Strand Fire, a fire devil formed right over hot ashes. Extreme heat creates unstable air that can spin into these brief but powerful whirlwinds—another example of how unpredictable wildfires can be. @winknews @nwsmiami

None of the right handed bats were good choices. This is a roster construction issue, not a management issue.

FSS just told us the north side of the Newman Dr Fire is in the mop up stage. The south side is still active with overnight efforts to secure hotspots. Fire remains at 60% containment.

Newman Dr Fire is now 1733 acres and 40% contained. FFS has 30 personnel on scene and 75 resources to battle the fire. There are also two helicopters and two air tankers planes making drops on the blaze. FFS says downed trees and stumps are causing a challenge for tractor plows.

Overnight the fire grew about 300 acres in size. More resources are being all in from as far as Central Florida to help contain the blaze.

The fire is very much actively burning tonight. This video was taken about 30 minutes ago by the Marco Patriots group. The fire remains at 1,200 acres and 15%. Tonight as humidity rises and winds decrease firefighters should be able to get a better handle on containment and securing lines. I suspect we will have a better size up of the fire in the morning. The biggest test will be what happens tomorrow as humidity levels drop and temperatures increase.

Newman Fire now 1000 acres and 15% contained. Fire is being pushed by 25-30 mph gusts along with RH values in the upper 30s and extreme drought conditions. Evacuation Order - Level 3 - Go Sections of Stable Way, Union Drive, Barton Gliba Drive, Benfield Road, Beck Boulevard, and Le Buff Road Residents off of Newman Dr. near Beck Blvd. No additional evacuations have been announced but residents in the area should be on alert and monitoring developments. This includes areas east of Collier Boulevard and south from Beck Boulevard to Rattlesnake Hammock Road according the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
