8th-grade @ChiPubSchools families are receiving emails today with their student's HS admissions test results. Consistent with the entire CPS HS admissions process, the email is confusing and leaves families with more questions than answers.

Take special care of Chicago 8th graders today. They need our love and support today as they take a particularly cruel high stakes test for high school admissions.

In 10 days @ChiPubSchools 8th graders will take the high school admissions exam. CPS has forced students to take some pretty terrible tests over the years. This one has to be the worst.

uh isnt jones college prep in the south loop? why dont yall just make that a neighborhood school? oh wait i forgot the egos of white people is more important to this city than the development of black people and children.

We have to give this ridiculous HS admissions test to @ChiPubSchools 8th graders on Oct. 26th. It is timed. We don't know what standards are assessed. People with money are paying for test prep classes. It will determine S's opportunities. Madness.

Something I've been wondering is whether I should replace some of the flashcard time in my classroom with a brief whole-group routine that involves this kind of brief flash/recall. I think it could be fun.
