Insanely curious or curiously insane? Contrarian - crowds frequently believe a whole lot of crazy. Pretty sure I've lost the box I'm thinking outside of.

@AaronBastani Nobody died in Tiananmen Square. It is another of WMSM's great fabrications. Lots of people (especially police) died over weeks of disturbance in the district outside TS, but there is no credible evidence that anyone died inside the square. Even "tank man" walked away.

The 30k casualties figure regarding Iran earlier this year had no evidence. That’s why it became 40,000, 50,000…90,000. The most reputable international news agencies said it was circa 3000 people plus. Already appalling. Worse than Tiananmen Square. It could be higher but I’ve seen no authoritative sources attesting to that. The huge numbers put out there weren’t an accident though. It was priming an international audience for what is now beginning: the death of tens, and possibly then hundreds of thousands, in Iran as a regional war lets rip. One of the great exercises in manufacturing consent of our time.

For those who think the U.S. does not have a plan with regards to Iran, pls answer this one question: If the U.S. has no plan, then why did Iran spend the last 40 years preparing to counter the U.S.'s plan...?

@admcollingwood Maybe we (the West) needs to feel that pain in order to realise that we have a political system no longer fit for purpose? Whoever it is these incompetants and grifters work for it isn't the people.

The power of sanctions is now available to Iran. This is the conclusion we must draw. We applied the sanctions (economic) weapon liberally and ruthlessly to crush nations who did things with which we disagreed. Now, it is being applied to us. I say that with no relish or happiness—and if anybody is tempted to enjoy the schedenfreud, I urge them not to do so, because if this doesn't end soon, either with the USAF entirely suppressing Iranian fires or Trump accepting a colossal geostrategic loss, the pain will be worse than anything we have felt for almost a hundred years.

Just wow are you serious? This is literally week 4 of the war with many military targets across a huge country and utilizing only about 1/3 of the military assets sent to Iraq war (btw Iraq is one third of the size of Iran). It’s been a huge success in terms of both output and results given the assets used. USA is just about to address the opening of the strait directly now and my guess is they will get their way in two to three weeks max! Imagine acting like a kid with 0 patience and not listening to military experts that have been very clear about the process. Next time invite military experts instead of anti-american clown economists esp. that clown Luke 🤡. Unfollowed and muted.

If America is the most powerful country on the planet, and has the most dominant military the world has ever seen, how come they can't open the strait of Hormuz? I sat down with Grant Williams and Luke Gromen to unpack the real implications of escalating conflict in the Middle East and what this means for the global economy, and your portfolio. @LukeGromen @ttmygh

The UK produces around 5–6 million tonnes of salt per year, supporting industries worth tens of billions, from chemicals and water treatment to food processing and pharmaceuticals. The UK chemicals sector alone contributes £30 billion+ to the economy, and salt is a foundational feedstock for it. It’s also used in 90% of medicines, underpins winter road safety, and supports thousands of skilled jobs across the North West and Yorkshire. If domestic production collapses, we don’t just import salt. We export jobs, supply chain security, and industrial capability. Ed Miliband isn’t protecting the economy, he’s dismantling it, piece by piece

Statement regarding Mrs. Carrie Prejean Boller   In recent days, I have become aware of the removal of Mrs. Carrie Prejean Boller from the Presidential Religious Liberty Commission, along with the public accusations that have followed. After reviewing her account and the circumstances surrounding this matter, I believe it is necessary to speak plainly.   Ms. Boller has been treated unjustly.   A Catholic woman, speaking from a well-formed conscience and in fidelity to the teachings of the Church, has been publicly criticized and removed – yet no clear, substantiated reason has been provided. Such a lack of transparency does not serve justice. It damages reputations and undermines trust.   More troubling still is the apparent cause: that she raised legitimate questions about Zionism and defended the simple truth that Catholics are not bound to any political ideology.   Let me be clear.   The Catholic Church does not teach that the modern State of Israel holds a divine mandate that must be supported by all believers. Nor does the Church teach that opposition to political Zionism is inherently antisemitic. These are not doctrines of the Catholic faith.   At the same time, the Church unequivocally rejects all hatred toward the Jewish people. Every human person is to be loved, defended, and treated with dignity. But this truth must not be distorted. To question the policies or actions of a modern nation – any nation – is not hatred. It is a moral responsibility when innocent life is at stake.   We are witnessing great suffering in the Holy Land. Innocent men, women, and children – especially in Gaza – have endured immense devastation. To speak on behalf of human life, wherever it is threatened, is not political extremism. It is fidelity to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.   Mrs. Boller did what many are now afraid to do: she spoke.   She spoke for Catholics who are increasingly pressured to conform to political narratives that do not reflect the fullness of our faith. She spoke to ensure that antisemitism is not wrongly conflated with legitimate moral concern. She spoke for the dignity of all human life – Jew and Palestinian alike.   For this, she has been mischaracterized.   It is especially disheartening when such treatment appears to come, in part, from those within the Church who should be the first to defend the faithful when they speak truthfully and in good conscience. Shepherds are called to protect, not to abandon; to clarify, not to confuse; to stand with the sheep, especially when they are under attack.   Silence in the face of injustice is not prudence. It is a failure of charity and truth. Therefore, I express my support for Mrs. Carrie Prejean Boller.   I affirm her right, as a Catholic and as an American, to speak clearly about matters of faith, morality, and public life without being unjustly labeled or removed without explanation. I also call for greater clarity and fairness from those responsible for her removal, so that truth – not speculation – may prevail.   This moment calls for courage.   Not political courage, but Christian courage – the kind that stands firmly in truth while remaining rooted in charity. We must reject hatred in all its forms, but we must also reject the misuse of that charge to silence those who speak in defense of life and moral truth.   Let us pray for peace in the Holy Land – for Jews, for Palestinians, and for all who suffer. And let us pray for the Church, that she may always speak with clarity, charity, and unwavering fidelity to Jesus Christ, who is the Truth.   In Christ, Bishop Joseph E. Strickland

@hkuppy You may be overlooking that Israel is struggling here and may soon get desperate? That could dominate/dictate all other considerations - ie surrender or nukes? Iran wins here simply by not losing. It's Rope a Dope and they have planned it for decades. x.com/AbsorberTheGee…

The important thing is that Trump is out of attractive options. Hormuz has to open, or the global economy dies. Iran won’t negotiate and ground wars are messy. Given the size and population of Iran, we likely need a force generation that is a few times that of Iraq 1. As you can imagine, most Americans want nothing to do with an adventure like this. At the same time, Trump cannot simply go home, as that would be a defeat. As terrible as it seems, Trump is slowly realizing what I said a few weeks ago, the only way out of Iran, is through Iran. Are you ready for what’s coming..?? They’ve been prepping for 45 years…
Kuppy@hkuppy

Trump can TACO, burrito and chimichanga, but nothing will open Hormuz unless Iran wants it open. We can’t go home with Hormuz shut and missiles raining down on our friends. The only way out, is through Iran.. As scary as that sounds, I think we’re going to mobilize serious boots on the ground. That takes 6+ months. No one’s portfolio is positioned for half a year of this chaos…

@hkuppy 45 years of preparation and in 4 weeks we’ve sunk their navy, taken over their airspace, and killed off every general that matters. And how many American casualties ? Less than 10? What American assets have they hit? Zero? Seems like they need another 45 years of preparation.

Nobody in the Trump administration planned for Iran to shut the Strait of Hormuz. Nobody planned for sustained missile strikes on American bases across the Gulf. Nobody planned for an energy crisis. Nobody planned for Europe to look at Washington, shrug, and walk the other way. Nobody, it turns out, planned for very much at all. Read the accounts of how this war was decided and you are left with one deeply uncomfortable realisation: the people who launched it appear to have been genuinely surprised by almost everything that followed. The Iranians shot back. The allies didn’t show up. The oil price went vertical. All of it, apparently, news to them. Which leaves two questions so obvious they’re almost embarrassing to ask. What exactly did they think was going to happen? And did anyone, in any room, at any point, think further ahead than the applause? Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

@SteveAkehurst Natural Gas prices are NOT global. Unlike oil, NG is difficult/costly to transport, and priced in regional markets according to local supply:demand. UK NG is currently ~6x the cost of Texas NG - because Texas produces so much and the UK so little (compared to local demand).

Two basic things that used to be uncontroversial: - the vast majority of North Sea oil is sold abroad, so cannot meaningfully contribute to UK energy security - gas and oil prices are set internationally, what’s left in the North Sea is too small to move it

It's difficult to take seriously anyone in the renewables space who claims there's a global price for Natural Gas. NG is very difficult to transport (mostly in pipes) and is priced in regional markets according to local supply:demand relationships. This is pretty basic stuff.
Tara Singh@RenewableUKCEO

Why wind power isn't “woke”, my piece in today's @spectator. The North Sea matters but won’t cut bills - we pay the global price for gas. Fracking is unpopular and wouldn’t change that. SMRs are promising but distant. Wind is the practical, affordable option to build right now. spectator.com/article/wind-p…
