‘Ari’ = enemy, in Sanskrit. Arihant = Destroyer of the enemy Arighaat, Aridhaman, and Arisudan all carry variations of the same meaning: vanquishing the enemy. MoD had ‘chosen and approved this at all levels because of its subtlety and appropriateness in conveying the resolve.’

@RicchaDwivedi @mannmarzi29 All the names start with 'Ari', is there any special reason behind this?

@sdhaddow The subcontinent is a goldmine for Archeology if only it got more institutional support. Large contours of Indian history remain buried under our feet and we're none the wiser.

2016: Arihant 2024: Arighaat 2026: Aridhaman 2027: Arisudan (expected) The biggest takeaway is pace. What was once a single milestone is now a pipeline. Marks a major doctrinal upgrade that deepens India’s credible second-strike deterrent at sea.

As a Hindu woman, I will never buy into the narrative that British men were “saviours” the same men who made bizarre interpretations about Hindu women, who literally written in pamphlets that sati happened coz Hindu women had a “libidinous disposition,” basically saying women were burned by their husbands coz of their own sexual desire. You can’t convince me that the Bengal famine deaths weren’t discussed in the British Parliament, while a few sati cases in Bengal were deemed worthy of debates. Sit down, clown.

Hindu women were also expected to burnt alive atop their dead husband’s pyre, a practice later outlawed by the British, but wow, so matriarchal & divine feminine.

His win in 1971 was responded by insecure Indira Gandhi by dissolution of Sainik Pay Commission, end of OROP and stopping his retirement benefits. Sam said in an interview that Indira lost on negotiation table what army won on the battlefield and that Bhutto made a monkey out of her.

In the throes of being diplomatically overwhelmed by a rampaging EI Co in 1799, the weakened Maratha power at Pune turned to Nana Phadnis for advice. Nana was nearly 58 y old ~ released after six months in prison ~ and was a pale shadow of his former self. In 1799, Tipu was killed and in the same year, the overbearing English made extravagant political demands on the Pune Government. Just months away from his own demise, Nana resolved the diplomatic challenges thrown in his own way. This article describes some of these.

The first Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta printed in Devnagari script - in Miraj 1805 "Nana Phadnavis had planned (1790s) to get the Geeta printed in Devanagari. He approached Charles Malet (British Resident in Pune) for the same, and with the help of Malet the first ever Devanagari types were made by local Pune artisans. But soon Malet left and Nana died. And the project took a backseat. But fortunately then the Miraj chief knew about the project and decided to take over it. He set up a press in Miraj and called over the artisan family with Devanagari types to Miraj."

Raghav Chadha is the politician who spearheaded the filing of malicious FIRs against several commentators from the non-left. That some people are now doing paid tweets for him is just staggering to me.

Your Mani Ratnam made a filthy movie called Raavanan, where he showed Ragini (a character based on Sita) developing feelings for Veera (a character based on Raavan) after being abducted by him. Mani Ratnam became such a shameless person after his initial success, and the movie you’re talking about is poorly made on all accounts.

Rahul Bedi in his article in WIRE yesterday , was very critical of General Dwivedi visiting Puri temple in Uniform and praying on behalf of the Army . Well an American Army Veteran Chaplain of Desert Storm had said " soldiers approached me and me to tell them how to pray ". In fact just before the operations started even Gen Schwarzkopf's Chaplain was offering prayer at the Command Tactical Operation Centre. As battlefield prayer was communication with the actual CIn C .It was reporting for duty ! In India too Soldiers , officers and Generals too are very proud of their religion . Prior to leaving the Unit lines there is a Mandir / Gurudwara parade ( similar for others if Maulvi / Padre is authorized based on numbers ). There is an apt Indian saying "Haathi Chale bazar----" so Gen Dwivedi has no need to apologize to any one . And we need to ask was the article written as a "concern " for so called upside down version of SECULARISM or prompted?
