Someone who has a strong impulse to punish others has not examined their own flaws. They are certain that their way is right and all other ways are wrong. For this reason, they cannot be trusted. As Carl Jung famously said, "Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.” When looking at what irritates you, you can figure out why it does irritate you. By doing this sort of thing you can look deeper into yourself and can know why you think the way you do. Those who act with conviction upon their irritation have not done the self reflection and inner work necessary to be trusted.

According to results from the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), American high school graduates are getting dumber each year. About half lack fundamental math skills and 25% are "functionally illiterate" meaning they can read short text, like menus, but cannot read longer or complex material. Proficiency scores gradually decline, but there's a major disconnect because graduation rates have gradually increased. If students are getting dumber, why are the graduation rates going up? This is because the education system doesn't care about the competency of their graduates. Competency is not the aim. The aim of the system is to manufacture controllable, indoctrinated workers and activists (aka useful idiots). The system produces graduates who can't reason, aren't resilient, are financially ignorant, in debt, unhealthy, with no real world skills...but they are very politically activated. They are filled with resentment and this resentment is a powerful force when directed at a specific cause. Is this a flaw in the system? Or is this what the system is designed to produce? #thomassowell #thomassowellquote

There are some things money can't buy - Your integrity, family, core values, virtue, your word, your heart, etc. Never exchange these things for material possessions. No amount of money, fame or power will fill the emptiness of selling your soul.

When dealing with an enemy, It’s always important to remember that the goal is not to see how much harm you can inflict on them. The goal is to get what you want, while doing the least amount of harm to yourself. Make your desired outcome seem like the best option for everyone. Sun Tzu says, “Give your enemy a golden bridge to retreat across.” Make their concession feel like a victory for them. Oftentimes, battles prolong because of ego. If you can appeal to your enemy’s ego, and make them feel good about the result you want, then ultimately you will get what you want and everyone will be happy. This is how the expert negotiators make deals. So often it is emotion, not logic, that hinders an agreement from being made. So instead, Offer a graceful exit. Give the other side a way to change course without admitting defeat. Preserve their dignity. People resist when cornered; they accept when they feel respected and in control. Sun Tzu made a point to always treat enemy soldiers he captured with the utmost kindness. A strong, loyal ally is far more valuable than a bitter rival. Kindness is the ultimate killer - Make the opponent's loss feel like a win for them.
