Hint* You don't control a strait from one side of the waterway. You don't control both sides without a beach-head. Your beach-head will be short-lived without an inland defense network. Your inland defense will be over-run without destroying the enemies ground troops. You cannot destroy all ground troops in a mountainous region by air alone, you need a full scale invasion force. Minimum standoff to intercept hypersonic missiles is 300 miles. For the Strait of Hormuz, that is equal to the southern half of Iran. You do not take 50% or Iran with a few operators and the 82nd. (Close, but still no). You cannot take the southern half of Iran which is less populated than the North and hold it. You must take the whole of Iran. The U.S. military does not have enough troops to invade Iran, we have 2.1m, we need at least 9 million. That is a tall order for the U.S. in personnel, equipment, and more importantly economics. A draft for a war as unpopular as this in a government that is known to be extremely corrupt could well spell the collapse of the United States. The alternative is using Nukes. Nukes may or may not be enough, but they would certainly make this a wider conflict. Trump is writing checks he can't cash. This war was over before it began.
