@jackfifield Metrolink using mph speed limits whilst other UK tram systems use km/h gives me the ick.

The trams can go 50mph. In parts of the city centre they're limited to 10mph or even 5mph, and have to navigate circuitous streets. With a tunnel they could potentially go much faster and maybe a bit of a straighter line?

New Islington to Chorlton is 14 mins by car or 29 mins by tram. However, 12 mins of that is just getting from New Islington to Deansgate - just 2.2 km as the crow flies so 11 km/h or ~6 mph average speed. How much of that could be reduced with city centre tunnelling?

I'm not saying things are bad for Biden, but Sky News have got their live counter graphic out.
