@cortneydirks @PTerlip Reflecting on my very scatter-brained contributions to this thread, my summary is: from my experience, I can't recommend the Sony Alpha iii. That said, I wonder if someone else might be able to tell you about their fantastic experience with a wide lens...? :)

@cortneydirks @PTerlip Another thought: with my Sony's prime lens, I can't quickly change manual focus (it zooms in automatically on the subject to achieve high precision). I can't give my camera to people to take photos which is a bummer!

@cortneydirks @PTerlip I feel so reassured it's not just me who noticed the lack of depth! I keep saying I'll go to a photography meetup to get advice but it's hard to find the time...

@PTerlip for things like portraits or landscape / wall art or other artistic photos, I did notice there wasn’t the same depth as with my Nikons. I hope that helps!

@PTerlip I switched from Canon to a Sony alpha mirrorless. Though I love the body, I suggest testing lenses - mine seems to wash out easily when I take photos outside here in CO. It's too bright!

This made me so much closer to my characters! And it is what made my writing connect more with my readers.

The mountains are violently wet and dreary-perfect for writing today.

I was one of those who lost their agent Monday. I will never begrudge anybody doing what is right for their health, and it sounded very unexpected. But the agency as a whole should have had a better plan to take care of its authors.
