Lots of "we didn't read it in school" and neither did I but an adult with basic access to information and (pop!) culture never encountering The Odyssey even as passing reference demonstrates an active *avoidance* of history and literature that is truly impressive lol

@clapifyoulikeme Everyone below a certain income threshold is entitled to legal aid. You pick a lawyer (some won't take legal aid cases) and they bill the government for time spent on the case. I think they have to justify the time they're spending and they get paid very small amounts.

@uncanny_eli Unfortunately it does matter in real life. Everyone I know who is attracted to men prefers taller men. I see so many beautiful women daily with the most average looking tall guys. It might be the most important physical attribute for desirable masculinity. Not a dealbreaker tho.

@SamanthaAsumadu Blue eyes are recessive so this is perfectly possible? If mum has 2x blue eyes genes and dad has 1x blue and 1x brown a child has 50% chance of each eye colour. Also genetics are a bit complicated and weird, spontaneous mutations happen

@Alex_Autistic the Bill uses the term "inevitably progressive" which wouldn't apply to where there's no worsening of the condition, but one that stays somewhat stable with treatment but progresses over time would, I think, meet that part of the definition as it stands

@McDivergence If someone has no symptoms and isn't in any pain as long as they take a pill every day, but still has a non fatal condition are they considered terminally ill?

the only other provision in relation to treatment is about treatment (within the meaning of the bill) not including that which solely manages symptoms and pain.
this leaves a lot of grey areas around a policy question that really needs to be grappled with, but has been ignored.

Just tuned into the #AssistedDying debate to see an MP raise the point that allowing Doctors to raise the subject of assisted dying is wrong and he can’t support the bill with that in it. I was pro- until I heard about this but a couple of weeks ago, and this thought terrifies me

ngl, think the way the issues facing trans men in particular were handled here is a mess. this is basically saying that trans men shouldn't have remedies for pregnancy discrimination unless and until parliament decides to clarify what was obviously an unintended gap.

Previous arguments I've seen here were that the law passed making all previous laws gender neutral despite wording would apply here.
