One of the best parts of the Kalalau Trail is how isolated it is. Once you pass the first 2 miles, the small crowds disappear. It's just you, the wild goats, and the sound of the ocean against the cliffside. It’s one of the few places left that feels truly unchanged.

Backpacking Hadrian's Wall was 30 miles of sore hips and a lot of history. Solo backpacking isn't always easy (that slide I found was dangerous!), but the views at Birdoswald were worth it.

If the Kalalau Trail in Kauai, Hawaii looks like Jurassic Park to you, that's because it is! Scenes from the movie were filmed in the Kauai jungles.

While Kalalau Trail was built in the late 1800s to access the gorgeous Nāpali Coast, it's history spans long before this, with foot paths established around 2,000 years ago by Native Hawaiians to link settlements along the rugged coastline for access to travel and trade.
