Why the fuck should my son have to work 55 plus hours a week when I didn’t and neither did his grandparents or great grandparents ffs. Stop fucking pretending that boomers and Gen X was out there working 80 hour weeks. We fucking weren’t.
Rush@exRAF_Al

Why does Gen Z feel incapable of getting a second job, or part-time work? If he only has one job, he can work fifteen hours extra a week stacking shelves and save that for a house - and stop blaming other people for his inactivity.

@dwarbs @SandyofSuffolk @lukerobertblack Compromise ≠ modern day slavery. This shouldnt be the aspirations of older people for the young. Work hard sure but all Sandy's proposals are plain impossible for the majority.

POV: You are 22. You’ve graduated from Exeter Uni and have a grad job at NatWest in Liv Street. Your parents live in Torquay. You rent a room in a flat share with 5 randoms. If you scrap your premium Netflix, you will save £18.99 a month. Good luck saving for a deposit.

Imagine running a small business. Grinding though the mountain of costly red tape associated with hiring someone who may or may not work out. Imagine within days of starting, they bugger off on “parental leave.” Imagine knowing your new hire didn’t tell you they were about to have a baby and do this. The other thing you’ll have to imagine? Economic growth.

Imagine holding your newborn child. And being told you have to go straight back to work, simply because you’ve just started a new job. That ends today. For all those hardworking parents who were denied those first precious days: Labour has delivered day one parental leave.

This weekend, boomers have been calling my generation entitled, ungrateful, and straight up lazy for questioning the state pension triple lock. Apart from a barrage of playground insults, the same old arguments kept coming: “We paid in our time,” “It’s your turn now,” “Just move

Since you’re the DWP expert @LBC relies on, can you explain where this £6,000 figure comes from? Because it doesn’t exist. What does exist is a 4.8% state pension rise as of this month, going to many wealthier boomers living in Marbella than the working class people in genuine need who you’re criticising. Strange how your outrage only ever points one way.
Sophie Corcoran@sophielouisecc

Many of us are at work today on a bank holiday, knowing full well that people on benefits have just got a bonus of £6000. I would have to work around 500 hours to get an extra 6k - they don’t have to do anything Why do we even bother

@MccallCarole @justaphag6 @Anjelae9 The same cheap houses boomers have been telling young people to move. 5 hrs away from London or 2 hrs away any city with work, areas without jobs, remote villages since you know its perfect for young people so it would be for them too.

@justaphag6 @Anjelae9 And just where do you suggest they go? If they have family close by, and worked hard to save for their homes! What if there aren’t enough smaller properties in the area, you would just make them up and leave! Absolutely nuts!

@redrumlisa @JoshAlexCairo And some "pensioners" are calling young women greedy whores. In fact none of this happens because noone really knows who is actually real or a troll/bot. So maybe we should refrain from looking at edge and extreme cases because some might not even be true.

All these bright young middle class Millenials & Gen Zers think they are fighting an enemy today their own grandparents not understanding that removing pensions for this generation means you remove it from every generation with a different life experience they dont even have the empathy for their future selves.

@francessmith @BenedictSpence THATS THE POINT. This will become faster if boomers keep telling the young "shut up and stop having avocado" why you don't see this..... Also if UK is bankrupt their won't be any choosing in the matter.

@Anas_Sloth @BenedictSpence Time comes rapidly down the road at an alarming speed. People don't stay young forever, the young will age and like some old fable discover that it's them that won't get that State Pension they gleefully campaigned to abolish to annoy the boomers. That's the cautionary tale.

@francessmith @BenedictSpence That is the result of a whole pile on and is more of "Maybe look after the young and don't be condescending because eventually they will out vote you and they will remember" Its more of a cosionary tale.

@Anas_Sloth @BenedictSpence "If they want to keep their benefits" he says. Benedict has perhaps an issue with time. Pensioners aren't a static group, every year some die, and new ones reach pension age. But you're right unless YOU protect pensions you won't have any. Be careful what you seek to destroy.

@francessmith @BenedictSpence He didn't threaten. He made a valid question. Why government should financially protect the equities of old but not the young. People are talking about the triple lock not the whole pension. Especially for younger people elwhen end up in pensions age it won't be any

@Anas_Sloth @BenedictSpence He threatens pensioner benefits, as if he were some Dorian Gray figure who would never age himself. The State Pension as a concept needs to be protected from those foolish enough to think they will never age.

@andie52 @francessmith @BenedictSpence The whole point was that focus on pentioners from the governmner isnt a good strategy. The moment I say this people get very diffensive. Its unsustainable to have above inflation increases. As for the other benefits to non contributes I agree its a bigger problem.

@Anas_Sloth @francessmith @BenedictSpence It's also unsustainable to dish out benefits to those who refuse to work, but here we are. Remember the state pension is a contributory benefit and is taxable, so it's only fair that benefits should go the same way, no? Direct your anger at those in charge, not old people.

Totally. I’ve seen the nasty bile on here and I’ve decided to let Karma sort them out. I have better things to do and probably more useful to the community than the shabby lot hating older generations. It’s been utterly shameful.
@

To be clear, I want young people to have homes & work & fantastic lives. I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t. But this hatred of older people is not acceptable. And it IS hatred. Pure venom I have no idea where it came from but it will not end well, for anyone Change course.

@francessmith @BenedictSpence What is this weird emotional language. It is unsustainable to have above inflation pension increases when the economy been stagnating for years. Telling young people to just commute 4 hrs or other condescending remarks is not helping.

@mckenzie_sohan @lukerobertblack Missing the point - if you want the asset you have to make the sacrifice. Until 5 yrs ago WFH wasn’t a thing - many of tye boomers did far more commuting than this.

Ah yes - Sandy. A young and aspirational graduate, say, with a job at the Barclays in Canary Wharf, should definitely move a 3-hour commute away from London - to a place where they have no friends, no family and no support network.

@Pabel5Pabel @SustainableTall The majority didn't? There was a huge shift to cities even from the older generation. Lots of towns were pushed to poverty with the de-indastralisation of UK. Dont expect young people to move to remote a reason and then not allow them to move their jobs.
