As a member of the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs, I signed this letter to Wisconsin’s Congressional Delegation to do their job and stop Trump’s illegal war. Every day this conflict continues, it puts our troops at greater risk, wastes taxpayer dollars, and makes our world less safe. We must choose a path that prioritizes peace, accountability, and the well-being of our communities.

Today is a good day. Assembly Democrats have fought so hard to expand access to care for new moms and babies, and I was proud to join Governor Evers as the postpartum Medicaid expansion bill was signed into law!

BREAKING: I just signed the bill to extend postpartum coverage for Wisconsin moms from a lousy 60 days to one full year after giving birth. I promised I'd never stop fighting to make sure moms and babies had the postpartum care they need, and today, I delivered on that promise.

MADISON, WI – On March 14, Assembly Democrats introduced a proposal to use $1.3 billion of the state’s surplus to provide significant property tax relief and increase state funding for public schools. State Representative Angelito Tenorio (D-West Allis) released the following statement: “While Speaker Vos and Assembly Republicans pack up and head home early, we know that there is still work to be done. All session long, Wisconsinites have been asking for more funding for our schools and action to lower property taxes. We need to act on these priorities. “We have a straightforward solution: pick up the tab for constitutionally-mandated public school services, and meaningfully keep down local property taxes without further shortchanging our communities. When the state pays its fair share, property taxes stay down. It’s that simple. “Our proposal increases general school aid paid by the state, using just some of the surplus funds at our disposal. By doing so, we project the state can deliver serious relief to property taxpayers who have been footing the bill left to them by years of Republican budgeting. “Second, our proposal addresses a universal strain on public school districts’ tight budgets: the low reimbursement rate for special education services. While Legislative Republicans claimed they would reimburse 42% of special education costs in public schools this year and 45% next year, they budgeted insufficiently and are expected to fall some 7% short of their promise. Our bill uses existing surplus funds to increase reimbursement rates to 60%, allocates enough money to meet that commitment, and would significantly reduce the need for operating referendums across Wisconsin. “We know this proposal will have bipartisan support in our neighborhoods. What remains to be seen is whether it will have bipartisan support inside the Capitol. I hope Legislative Republicans and Governor Evers are ready to listen to public education professionals, parents, and local taxpayers, and pass our bill.”

Had a great meeting with constituents who came to the Capitol with the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin. Always grateful for the chance to hear directly from pharmacists and pharmacy students about the issues impacting patient care and our communities!

NEW FEATURE: The politics of Waukesha County, the longtime GOP stronghold, are changing dramatically. The once-deep red county is becoming more and more purple with each election. Now, unabashed Democrats are running in mayoral races in Brookfield and Waukesha. Could they win?

15 years ago, Wisconsin’s Act 10 was signed into law, which ended most collective bargaining rights for public employees in our state. I fought like hell to stop this blatantly anti-worker legislation when I was in the Wisconsin State Assembly. And the fight continues today. I urge the Wisconsin Supreme Court to finally repeal Act 10 once and for all.

Had a great meeting with a constituent talking about ABATE of Wisconsin. One of my favorite parts of this job is meeting with constituents and listening to the issues they care about!
