In a discussion with NSF staff in 2024, I shared how thankful I was for the NSF GRFP program and how it changed my life. We talked about how this was a story they wanted to highlight this year, as that program turned 75. I'm happy to share it with any reporter if it helps.

This tiny original funding helped me train other scientists, publish new findings on our world, discover a new species of fungus to science, & give a TED talk (w/ > 1.6M views. A TED talk at a conference where other speakers that week included Serena Williams, Elon, and the pope.

The firings at NSF are awful. I'm a scientist whose graduate research--on the microbes of wasps--was the example of the basic sci. they fund. A decade later, this research led to patented brewing technology that is commercialized across the world but that's not all. #NSF #scicomm
