Pete Koeniges, DAT, LAT, ATC is the kind of athletic trainer every student athlete hopes is on the sideline. At Northern Highlands Regional High School, he provides medical care, injury prevention, emergency response, treatment and rehab, helping athletes return to play safely and quickly.
But his impact goes beyond routine care. Recently, a visiting basketball player went into cardiac arrest mid-game. Thanks to Pete’s calm, decisive action, years of training and the school’s emergency action plan, he used an AED and CPR to save a life – a moment that embodies what “Care You Can Count On” truly means.
Pete also serves as District 2 Representative for the NATA Secondary School Athletic Trainers Committee and now brings his experience into the classroom through Montclair State University’s kinesiology department, shaping the next generation of athletic trainers.
This National Athletic Training Month, we celebrate Pete – a lifesaver, educator, and advocate – and all the ATs who provide care you can count on every day.
