The Romans CHOSE to move and replace the spring festival of Ishtar with the 'Resurrection Day' observance (I think the Romans called her Aphrodite or Venus... Don't immediately recall which.) But, it was an ancient observance since the time of the Mesopotamian empires. That's it! That's the entire comment explained so that even a five year old could understand it. You people really ARE an overly sensitive lot.

But the whole world (including the Catholic Church) has not named the resurrection day after a pagan goddess, because it is only called "Easter" in English speaking countries. The name everywhere else comes from the Greek "pascha" (passover) or translates as "resurrection"

That we celebrate the immeasurably high price Yeshua paid for our sakes… to be saved, redeemed. Many of us call it Resurrection Day for that reason.

Look... You people have twisted my words enough for one thread. I never SAID Resurrection day is 'wrong' or unChristian. I said that the Roman Catholic church co-opted a pagan Spring festival (dedicated to Ishtar) in order to charter the holiday, EASTER... because it was convenient. That's IT. That's the original comment. And, it is TRUE. But, every papist on X decided to read into what WAS said... A LOT of things that were NEVER said. That's what happens when you think you are a perfect Christian and can broadside every subject you don't agree with. All that being said... I like Resurrection Day a LOT more than Easter (Ishtar). The day after Passover is appropriate. And, I hope that you all will READ the original post and STFU about all the stuff that spider-cracked off of it due to papist butthurt. People forget this part of history. Israel defeated Egypt in war and then gave back the entire Sinai Peninsula - an area bigger than Israel itself - in exchange for peace. Israel withdrew from Gaza completely in 2005, removing its own settlements and citizens. Parts of the West Bank were handed over to Palestinian governance under the Oslo Accords. The Golan Heights wasn’t returned because Syria never made peace and the area overlooks northern Israel strategically. So the narrative that Israel just “occupies land and never gives anything back” is simply not true. Land was returned where peace was possible. Land was held where war was still the reality. That’s not ideology. That’s strategy and survival.

Exactly one year ago today, Austin Metcalf was murdered in broad daylight. The man responsible is now sitting at home on house arrest - enjoying freedom and time with his family. He admitted to the act, saying: “I’m not alleged. I did it.” He spent just 12 days in jail. His bond was reduced. Over half a million dollars was raised. He was allowed to graduate. And he is allegedly now attending college. And somehow, this is what justice looks like? This is a complete dishonor to the real victim - Austin Metcalf.
