Golden Album Analysis/Theory MasterThread I posted a 3 part Golden Analysis on Weverse. I met the Weverse character limit twice. So you can imagine how fast I'm going to run out here. I'm bringing it here by making a thread per song and putting the threads here. #JungKook_GOLDEN

@BTS10Years @razorrexic @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane I started doing it by paper in first grade. And i was able to figure it out on my own..but maybe i wasnt normal. Always got in trouble for not doing home work but acing every math test. Or not showing my work. So its possible im a loytle baised.

@SS0006080831473 @Kujar3 @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane I think this way is also designed for students who are very visual learners, as evidenced by the drawing in the assignment. For someone like me who does well with abstract concepts and rules, the traditional way works fine. Not so much for a visual, concrete learner.

@SS0006080831473 @Kujar3 @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane Okay, this is actually a very valid point. It is strange that they're focusing on mental math instead of core math principles. The only thing I can think is with calculators + AI and stuff, they're trying to teach less computerizable things (I know that's not a real word lol)

@BTS10Years @Kujar3 @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane I was taught to memorize as well. Im 38 and old. But memorization has its uses as its the fastest method. Regardless, i dont think mental math needs to be taught over the fundamentals. I mean i used to have fun doing big numbers in my head. When i was a child.

@SS0006080831473 @razorrexic @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane What do you mean it shouldn't have to be taught? If it's not taught, how do you expect the child to figure out that that's how that works? The point of this assignment is that the child is not at the level of learning "adding it normally by paper". This is teaching that concept.

@BTS10Years @razorrexic @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane I mean thats just 200 + 400, 70 + 80, and 2 + 3. This shouldnt have to be taught. This was a natural outcome just adding it normally by paper. Takes a couple of seconds.

@SS0006080831473 @Kujar3 @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane Yeah, and I was taught to just memorize for numbers under 12. I think part of the confusion this assignment is causing is that most of us (myself included) were taught to memorize math facts and then taught rules for bigger numbers, but this school is doing it in the reverse.

@razorrexic @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane It takes a couple seconds for numbers like 8+9. It takes a long time for numbers like 273+482. You can't use counting for big numbers, so you have to learn other methods of addition with small numbers so that you can apply them to big numbers.

@Kujar3 @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane The imperative phrase here is "more easily...than simply memorizing". You found a different rule that works for you, but it's still a rule. I'm presuming that there were other problems with other rules. This assignment is just teaching how to solve without counting/memorizing.

@BTS10Years @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane "More easily" 🤨 Maybe my brain processes math differently but this is confusing as hell to me. I get that working with a 10 is a lot more intuitive but this is too much mental gymnastics for me. I simply remembered that anything "+9" is basically y-1 +10

@razorrexic @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane I also still use a similar method for larger numbers in my head. For example, when multiplying large number by 12, let's say 14, I think of it as 14×10+14×2. So, while the question on this homework was extremely poorly worded, I don't think this method is useless.

@razorrexic @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane Yes, you do just count, but counting takes a long time. So, this is a method that helps students start to understand addition without counting before memorization. I did memorize all of the addition (and subtraction, multiplication, and division) permutations under 12 in school.

@cianchetto4 @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane Yes, I'm not blaming the kid. It's why I suggest this: x.com/i/status/20373…

@1CoreConscious @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane Yes, I wasn't saying that the problem should have been written with only this! My suggestion is for this to be provided in addition to the original question for any parents who are trying to help their kids and weren't in class to know what the instructions are asking.

@cianchetto4 @PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane You're right that we don't know how the teacher explained it in class, but the implication of the dad saying he doesn't understand is that the kid didn't understand well enough to tell his dad what the homework was asking. But the drawing definitely helps a lot!

@PnishdMythMason @BTS10Years @onlineinsane Who says it's ambiguous? You don't know the context of the question and you don't know how the teacher explained the "making a ten" process with other exercises If kids know that the "make a ten" means, then it's really easy to understand the question, especially with the drawing

@PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane No, no, I wasn't saying that the question was worded well! I was trying to elaborate on your scenario a) with the actual equations necessary to get the answer this problem wants. Because the answer to the problem isn't 2, it's 8+2+7.

@BTS10Years @onlineinsane "umm akshually..." No. Math questions should not be riddles, they can't have ambiguity. If you can't word a math question in a way that it can be solved without context, without guessing then you don't understand maths.

@PnishdMythMason @onlineinsane This is close, but still not quite what it's looking for. It wants: 8+X=10 9-X=Y 10+Y=Z X is 2, Y is 7, and Z is 17. So the answer to the question is 8+2+7. This allows the child to more easily come to the answer of 17 than simply memorizing 8+9=17. - a 2005 baby

@onlineinsane Proposal on how to write the question so it's not stupid and confusing: A) 8+9=10+x - find x B) you have 8 bananas and 9 apples. You have to fill a basket with 10 fruit. How many fruit do you have left over?

@JYPETWICE Happy Twice 10th Anniversary! I so appreciate how Twice have maintained a space for girly-girls that promotes girl power without being super edgy or sexy. It's a group for celebrating being feminine and I love them for it. #TWICE #TWICE_10th_Anniversary

Princess Problems is genuinely such an offensive song. She literally just told him that she just survived an attempt on her life by the literal queen, and he proceeds to basically say she has an easy life? Like, did he miss the part where she nearly DIED? #SnowWhite
