Booking some travel for later in the summer and one hotel had a review that said, "Our room was cleaned late in the day and they forgot to refill shower gel but fixed that while we were out. We asked for a free room and they said no. So much for customer service!" What an asshole

Super unfortunate that the German players not on the field have to wear brown shirts over their jerseys.

Going up to NY on 7/5 for the day and thought it was far enough out that Amtrak might be reasonable. $144 one way is a joke.

I must have Mid-Atlantic Brain because there's something about working outside (safely) when it's in the upper 90s and high humidity that's more satisfying than the same tasks in October. Not more enjoyable, per se. I can't explain it but:

Europeans visiting places beyond New York and LA and constantly saying, "Oh my god it's just like the movies!" is a study in soft power. Like, of course NYC will look like a movie set. But Euros exclaiming about yellow school buses being real is soft power to the Nth degree.

@PastorSharp Every since 1945, nobody has wanted the Germans to get too big for their britches in any realm. It's just kind of engrained in the DNA of every American, Frenchman, and Brit. We like the Germans the same way you think Dr. Jekyll is nice.

The original spot was mildly funny, but then they tried to turn him into Jake or Flo or Mayhem and it just doesn't work. The recent one where he meets a woman who also mispronounces words is terrible and nonsensical to a new viewer.
Sean@panoptisean

They don’t show the original “biberty” liberty mutual commercial anymore but they still have the guy from it saying “liberty biberty” in new commercials without any context. So if a viewer missed the original biberty commercial they’re probably totally lost—and twice as pissed.

We did this a couple times when we were younger and one additional piece of info I would suggest is to be very firm about the 2 hour limit. And then be 100% committed as a couple to walking out at minute 120. Just like buying a car.

This is not even bad advice. You can get a $3,000 vacation for about $600 if you sit through a timeshare presentation. Just make sure you can say, “I am really not on the market for a timeshare” at the end of the presentation. I’ve also discovered that “there is a precisely 0% chance I am going to buy this timeshare” tends to end the conversation.

This seems pretty reasonable to me? I have seen various polls showing 10-15% of US adults rank soccer as their favorite sport. 30% saying they're at least interested is fine.
YouGov America@YouGovAmerica

New polling on the 2026 World Cup How interested are Americans in the World Cup? % of U.S. adult citizens who say they are... Very interested 13% Somewhat interested 16% Not very interested 14% Not at all interested 54% (Link in reply)

Neighborhoods annoying kid said my daughter’s water gun was “kinda junky, no offense”. Gonna call my Balkan connection and procure some real hardware for her.

@justin_fenton Our house (Towson) was used to film an episode of Homicide (Colors, S3, E19) and you can still see the old wallpaper in the episode in our hallway closet. Well before our time in the house.
