Today we took the plantlet and put it in moss to allow it to root.

Experimenting with a different kind of cloning in the lab....plants!! We attempted to propagate a cape sundew through cuttings. First, we cut leaves off this mother plant (shown here flowering)...

In a monumental effort, my research assistant completed a primary screen of 150,000 compounds!! There’s still a LOT of work to be done but in an academic setting with limited automation, this is quite the feat!!!

There is still a lot of work to do on this compound (and the many others we have identified in our screen which is up to ~1000K now!!) but we are excited to have some potential candidates to work with moving forward!

I almost forgot to post our most recent paper published in mSpectrum! We completed a screen of ~50K compounds and characterized one of our tops hits, a pyrimidine-based compound, which disrupts ER function in A. fumigatus! journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/sp…

It has been a whirlwind of a month but the Beattie lab has officially moved (across the hall)!! We are excited to grow into our new space and even more excited that the move is over now...
