He cheated on me with a girl from his job. I found out because she posted a picture of his hand on her story same bracelet I bought him for his birthday 😭. I didn’t go crazy, didn’t call him, didn’t fight her. I just watched. Sometimes silence makes people nervous, and I wanted him paranoid. I waited a week, then texted him, “Let’s go to dinner.” He showed up smiling like nothing was wrong, talking about future plans. Meanwhile, I was sitting there thinking about how stupid I looked defending him to my friends. We ordered food. I said, “You happy?” He said, “Of course, why wouldn’t I be?” I smiled, handed him my phone, and said, “You tell me.” it was open on her page. He froze. Couldn’t even breathe right. I finished my drink, told the waiter to split the bill, and said, “Enjoy your work relationship.” Then I left. That was the last time he ever saw me in person. Fast forward 6 months later, he tried to come back talking about, “I miss us.” I said, “Which one?” 💋

I had a friend who used to call me at 4am crying about her boyfriend. I’d wake up, listen, let her vent, and then go back to sleep, more than once. One night I couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d return the favor and called her at 4am. She answered and told me she was sleeping, & I should call back tomorrow. Moral of the story: always remember that energy you give isn’t always going to be reciprocated—set your boundaries, even with “friends.”
