@melina_manolas Heard this and passing it along for this instance: "They steal your beauty and then sell it back to you."

Boutique pharmacies on the Upper East Side advertising the availability and promoting inappropriate use of weight loss drugs makes me feel … sad 😞

The term professionalism in the mouth of an un-self-examined power-over-holder sometimes masks what is actually your garden variety prejudicial, explicit bias. Explore this gift article from The New York Times. Read it for free without a subscription. nytimes.com/2024/03/19/hea…

SJTs assess professional skills that are otherwise hopelessly impossible to measure objectively. Thus they are touted as fair and unbiased, because "objective = fair and subjective = unfair." What a convenient way to short-circuit and devalue human judgment in live interactions.

SJTs are used to blunt-screen in residency application, as a way of winnowing applicants because, it is justified, there are too many applicants for too few spots and not enough screeners with the bandwidth and discernment to pick the very most suitable applicants. Is this fair?

It may be ironic, paradoxical, mystifying and perhaps even hypocritical to require applicants to pay for a test under the pretense that it is used in the admissions selection process when it is actually much more commonly used to predict correlates of medical student performance.

SJTs are recommended or required by some medical schools as part of the application applicants submit. Some schools want Casper, some want PREview™. All implicitly expect applicants to pay for the test and to distribute it. Yet few schools actually use the exam in selection. hm

Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs) have different roots. Casper is from McMaster, a Canadian university, where the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) was born PREview™ Professional Readiness Exam is from the AAMC. Both were formulated and normed from rigorous research over many years.

Halfway through my gynecologic oncology elective! Feeling so grateful to participate in cancer care and complex surgeries with fantastic resident and faculty leadership. Every day affirms the #ObGynMatch2024 decision 🤗

If you have nothing for this category now, think of how you might engage with the people most directly––and adversely––affected by the social determinants of health. Get serious about being the change you want to see in the world of healthcare. 3/3

This category is of critical interest to admissions committees, reflecting the priority medical educators are placing on your willingness to learn about the inequities in the US health care delivery system through your lived experience. 2/3

For those applying this May 2023 to medical school, don't be surprised when you see the categories of work/activities in the AMCAS primary application. This year for the first time, you can select a category of social justice/advocacy. 1/1

@BeckyBitsie @notrobwalker Your mom likely sent you her stuff so you could share in her delight in those things, help her to purge them by offloading them to you to enjoy with less attachment, and donate, and to protect you from having to shovel out her life after she has moved on from the material plane.

@notrobwalker I loved this piece! We call our home “Hodge Podge Lodge.” We love our clutter because most of it has personal meaning and represents our connections to people, places, and experiences. New word learned: Cluttercore! nytimes.com/2022/12/29/opi…

Grateful to have matched @MontefioreEndo & for the opportunity to serve the incredibly gracious patients of the Bronx for the next 2 yrs! Especially excited to be part of a program so engrained in its social justice mission & community. This is why I entered medicine after all🙂
