@CoachAbon @GlobalWresOrder Aware. But, objectively not a rule. Bc something “typically” occurs that way doesn’t make it right. That’s my point
English

@BigTimBob @GlobalWresOrder Typically when there are no scores - each wrestler gets put on the shot clock at least once. You can hate it but that’s how it does done. Zain was put on twice and Henson once.
I agree that Henson was the aggressor but had no points.
English

@CoachAbon @GlobalWresOrder what does that have to do with the 2nd period that I referenced?
English

@BigTimBob @GlobalWresOrder Pretty sure Zain was on the shot clock first but got a push out to go up 1-0 in the first period.
English

@JBthehawkeye rewarding Zain for inaction is some mind-bending nonsense

Absolutely terrible and boring showing from Zain

Bro Zain Retherford did NOTHING in 2 matches. WTF was that from a World Champion??? Where was the otherworldly PSU offense?!

Why Isn’t Bubba Chandler More Successful?
Bubba Chandler lost last night to the Rangers, and it followed a now-familiar script. Texas jumped on him early, tagging him for six runs in four IP, highlighted by a three-run shot from Corey Seager and an inside-the-park homer from Evan Carter.
It continues an uneven start to Chandler’s big-league career. Across nine starts dating back to last season, a familiar pattern is emerging -- dominant outings followed by blowups where things unravel quickly.
It reminds me of one of the smartest people I have ever known, a high school friend, who nearly missed a perfect 1600 on his SAT (back when that was the standard). Hugely smart kid, but without emotional intelligence, who went off to college and flunked out his freshman year. Worked at a Circuit City while we were all graduating into careers. The wasted talent was an early meme between those of us who knew him.
I see the same sort of unevenness with Chandler. The contrast is especially stark when placed next to Braxton Ashcraft, profiled in this column yesterday, who has opened his career with 13 straight starts of steady, controlled execution.
Former big-leaguer Curt Schilling weighed in on Chandler during spring training in late February after a blow-up game, calling him a “max effort” pitcher -- the kind of arm that can look unhittable one outing and completely bomb out the next.
Of the Pirates’ emerging trio alongside Paul Skenes and Ashcraft, Chandler grabs headlines with his 100+ mph fastball. But velocity alone doesn’t separate a pitcher the way it once did. It’s not enough to go out there and throw darts and expect to shut down major league offenses.
Chandler's struggles point to something more foundational that needs to be addressed before he can take the next big leap forward.
It Starts With a Spike in Walks
Through his first five starts of 2026, Chandler has issued 10 walks in 19.2 innings. In his late-season sample last year, he issued zero across his final three outings.
But this isn’t coming out of nowhere. The underlying command profile has always been iffy. In 2023, he walked 51 in 111 IP across A+ and AA. In 2025 at Indy, that number climbed again to 53 BB in 100 IP.
Across 372 IP in the minors, Chandler had 4.2 BB/9, more than a full walk above the 2025 major league-wide average of 3.1 BB/9. That means, instead of working ahead and dictating at-bats, Chandler is pitching from behind, inflating pitch counts and forcing himself into the zone.
And that’s where he gets himself in trouble.
The Fastball Gets Punished
Chandler’s fastball still lights up the radar gun (98th percentile velocity), but the results tell a different story.
His fastball run value sits in the 26th percentile, and when he’s forced into the zone, hitters are knocking him around. Four HR allowed in under 20 IP is a consequence of predictable sequencing matched by poor command.
Opposing hitters are sitting on the fastball, and unlike in the minors where they couldn’t catch up, major league hitters are unloading.
No Put-Away Pitch When It Matters
Chandler’s chase rate is strong (72nd percentile), which suggests hitters are expanding the zone, but that isn’t translating into strikeouts. His K rate sits in the 33rd percentile, with only average whiff rates.
He’s getting to two strikes but not finishing hitters, which leads to longer at-bats, more balls in play, and more opportunities for runs to score as the bases fill.
I see Chandler as a guy who badly needs a new pitch, the way the sweeper has worked so well for Keller this season. Something that can shut the dang door or induce a weak grounder.
Bottom Line 📌
Chandler is only nine starts into his major league career, so I will cut him some slack. His arm talent is unreal, the ceiling remains high, and there is time for this to stabilize.
But the early returns point to a clear developmental gap. What got him here isn’t going to be what makes him a success here. He looks up to Skenes, who is a blueprint for how a pitcher with incredible stuff has to make pitch sequencing and precision his calling card, not 100+ mph heat.
Chandler is behind Skenes and Ashcraft on this point, but he’s also a tremendously hard worker. He is his own worst critic. I imagine he is up early this morning, reviewing video and beating himself up.
I believe in him. He just needs to believe in himself.

🤯 If ever there was a match to perfectly explain the ELITE youth movement in USA wrestling - it’s THIS 🚨‼️
Jax FORREST (OSU) has had one of the most legendary years in USA wrestling HISTORY! U23 World Champion🥇, Senior World Team member, left HS early and became an UNDEFEATED NCAA Champion🥇…
But none of that mattered to NCAA Finalist🥈Ben DAVINO (tOSU) - who himself is one of the great prospects we have seen. He attacked Jax from the jump and shockingly gets the 8-4 win to advance to the FINALS of the Senior US Open.

@saxboybilly18 looks like a terribly uninspiring park from television viewing standpoint

Texas is my least favorite MLB park in the US, suites all around the field so kids can’t get close to players except a weird steep right field. Then across the parking lot an empty stadium they built less than 30 years ago. Just a symbol of American failure and greed.
