@AustinJohnPlays I found an Igglybuff that wasn’t getting blown around in a rainstorm. I went to check on it, and sure enough ✨. Maybe they can’t get blown around? This may be a way to hunt them. Throw down a fairy shiny/encounter sandwich in a storm and see which ones stay put.

The slow decline of #Mendeley into “unusable” territory by removal of the app and invited groups by @mendeley_com is just further evidence of the chokehold that @ElsevierConnect and related businesses have on scientific content. Very disappointed and will be changing platforms.🖕🏻

I love the Methylobacterium spp. that I work with. They make awesome, pink colonies and can grow exclusively on methanol. And I isolated half of these guys from plants in my own garden! #SynBio

@CliffordBioChem Hmmm. I agree with the point about H2O. Makes me think that perhaps rather than revamping our image to account for people’s misconceptions we should try and educate them about our field. (Eg, once they know dihydrogen monoxide is just water they’ll stop being scared of it).

Personally, I’ve seen “bioengineering” used more synonymously with “biomedical engineering.” I don’t think it can be adequately synonymous with top-down/bottom-up synbio. “Dihydrogen monoxide” also sounds suspicious to laypeople until the term is explained.

Hello #synbio twitter. I'd like to initiate a conversation. Is the term "synthetic" biologist too suspicious in the public eye? Should we call ourselves bioengineers instead, to sound more "acceptable"? Are the two terms entirely interchangeable? @SynBioBeta @iGEM
