Old thermal paste must be completely removed before applying new paste. If you leave dried paste, dust, or oil on the surface, the new layer will not make proper contact and cooling efficiency drops dramatically. Always clean and degrease both surfaces: • the heatsink • the chip A few extra minutes of cleaning = much better thermal transfer. Not sure how to do it properly?
