Focusing on results works for a little while but not long. Focusing on the path works for a lifetime. Mastery is the name of the game. Process. Process. Process. Stop comparing. Be patient. Be Present.

Disrespect doesn’t just make people feel bad. It leads them to perform worse. Evidence from medical teams: Even a single insult decreases the quality of diagnoses and procedures. Rudeness disrupts focus and undermines collaboration. Civility is not optional. It’s vital.

RESPONDING TO MISTAKES "I'm letting the team down because I turned the ball over ... missed a shot ... blew a defensive assignment. No, you're letting the team down when it parlays into 4 or 5 possessions after that. Pick yourself up ... You're playing a game that's imperfect."

Day 2 with student-athlete leaders from MO and IL was fantastic. We talked about the skills it takes to regulate in high-stress moments, get back to a peak performance zone, and choose RESPONSES that align with our goals and values. Let’s go 👏 👏

Sport psychology can benefit people of all ages. It was a pleasure to speak at the first Special Ops Athlete Development Conference in San Antonio a couple weekends ago. The youth athletes who showed up were so engaged and eager to learn. What a cool experience! #youthsports

Minute one of training, perhaps pose this question to your players: “What does a great training session look like for you today?” Minute two, perhaps pose this question: “What does great support for your team mates look like today?” Let players imagine then go train

In a study on baseball players, the emotional state of the coach predicted the emotional state and performance of the players If a coach was angry, players grew more frustrated, made more errors, and were more likely to tank What message are you sending? thegrowtheq.com/getting-ready-…

4. Appraise your physiology You're either nervous or excited. You decide based on how you appraise arousal. The best athletes see their physiology as a sign their body has gotten them ready to perform, and that what they're doing matters. Train your mind to see excitement.

It’s shocking the number of bizarre things people do to “optimize” their health and longevity and yet they don’t exercise regularly, sleep 7-9 hours, eat fruits and veggies, build community, or ever relax. They obsess over the 0.1% but not the 99%.

So much to love about @garrisonrippa game winning field goal last night for Jacksonville State! He had never attempted a field goal or extra point in college. It was Jacksonville State’s first bowl win ever in their first year as an FBS program. BUT… What stood out the most to me was his pre-kick routine: - Breathwork to control his emotions and lock in on the present-moment. Many athletes take their breath for granted, but the best of the best utilize the power of it. - Feeding his mind powerful thoughts with his self-talk. He kept telling himself over and over “you were built for moments like this.” If players don’t take control of their self-talk in moments like this a lot of times they’ll start to think about what they DON’T WANT TO HAPPEN such as “don’t miss it!”, rather than what they DO WANT TO HAPPEN such as “I’m nailing this!” I don’t know what his final thought was right before the kick but I’m sure it was super powerful and positive. As Derek Jeter says, “The last thing you think is the first thing you do.” Quote from Rippa after the game: “There's a picture of me on ESPN with my head against the wall just like I was just breathing,” Rippa said. “I was just trying to tell myself, you know you prepared for this. All the hours outside of practice, all the hours in practice, been doing a lot. My teammates, they put me in a position to win, and I made it happen. I prepared for this.” All athletes (and non-athletes!) can learn and gain inspiration from what Garrison did last night. Nice work man! 👊

Large studies show that loneliness is as bad for you as smoking. Don’t fall for the trap of “optimizing” your life if it means less time for friendships and community.
