@Blueman211 Racing Australia, I believe. Must be hot off the press as none of the media sites seem to have reported on today's events yet.

Guessing the appeal hasn't gone well, and the phrasing "terminated" seems rather final? Does this mean terminated for the remainder of the 4 month original period? Or was a more severe penalty handed out tonight? And yes, downstream data supply (and data receive) is unnecessarily affected by all of this hogwash.

@davepband Yes headed to Randwick Saturday. Looks a mint meeting on noms. Hoping Sheza Alibi goes to the Guineas. Autumn, Attica, Ninja (was flattered last start by pace) will make for a vintage edition of it. Wished Observer was going there too.

Can't knock that at all. Marhoona last year was the best run on a strong speed going in. Did get conditions to suit in the Slipper itself, but I'd much rather be with a horse with the ability to sustain a run as they usually get along on grand final day. It's going to be a great betting race! All eyes now on what Paradoxium has at his 2nd race start in the Todman.

A few notes from my formking.com.au meeting review of Randwick Saturday 28/2/26. 🎯 The Spot (track pattern) Regulation Dead 4 track after ~45mm of rain on Thursday. The fence was quite obviously off, and inside 4-6 lanes inferior to the middle of the track in the straight. Nothing on the day won from the inside of the field. All winners 2-6 wide on the turn, and so I am very much forgiving inside runs or those 1 wide in transit. No leaders won their races but PIRs of winners at the 400m were otherwise evenly distributed. 🐕 Top Dog (highest rating) Autumn Glow 103.8 posted an almost identical rating to her 1st up performance, but this time off a Verry Sloww pace. That said, her final 2 splits of 10.7 and 10.96 were a brutal display of speed, some 9 lengths above par L400m. The market sent her off $1.05 on the World Tote and $1.3 Betfair SP. Honourable mention to Aeliana, who elevated 3 lengths off her 1st up run to a career peak 103.1 and you'd have to say is on track for another Group 1 win. 👶 (2YO babies) All eyes were on Warwoven resuming off 56 days, but it was the Waller pair Campione D'italia and Central Europe (both 93) that swamped a blanket field. With 1.4 lengths over the first 6 finishers, it was yet another reminder of how even the 2YO ranks are this season. I called it a 2L regression for Warwoven from his first 2 runs. The one thing in his favour was the way he ran against the track pattern. A return to his earlier ratings should be enough to see him one of the favourites on Slipper day, but I'd imagine he'll need to find at least another length on top of that to win on the day. Central Europe had a chequered passage in the straight, and undoubtedly should have won the race - he'll go to the Pago Pago? and there he will have his chance to elevate off a very credible debut figure into the pointy end of the market in either the Slipper or the Sires. 🐈‍⬛ Unlucky You'd have to say connections and backers of Savvie Hallie (99.7 - a big new peak) were most unlucky not to walk away with the Surround Stakes. The tempo was below average, and in a race where the proven class horse Tempted (100.1) was a query over the 1400m, Savvie Hallie only needed a neutral situation for leaders to steal the race. Tempted was asked to turn around a 5L deficit at the 800m and while she may not want it again, she dug very deep - running some of the top 10 meeting splits between the 600-200m when adjusted for distance. It does appear that her class got her home, but with the pattern of the day in favour versus Savvie Hallie, it could have easily gone the other way. If you're able to help Vicky - no matter the amount - you'll be standing shoulder to shoulder with good racing people against everything that is wrong with the current administration.
Vicky Leonard@vickyleo

To my fellow breeders, trainers, owners, and horse racing industry participants, My professional life has been devoted to the thoroughbred industry, driven by a purpose to help strengthen its future. I co-founded The Thoroughbred Report (TTR) with Gary King because this industry deserves its stories told well - and its leadership examined openly. Without transparency, there is no growth, and without accountability, there is no future. In November, TTR published what we maintain was a measured analysis discussing a simple governance question: Is a 21-year tenure as CEO still serving the best interests of our industry? Our story is now the subject of Supreme Court legal action for personal defamation by Mr V'landys, CEO of Racing NSW. I want to be very clear: our article was not defamatory of Mr V’landys. It was an objective discussion of tenure and governance, published squarely in the public interest while the NSW Government is actively reviewing the Thoroughbred Racing Act. We will be defending this claim vigorously. But defending a Supreme Court action of this scale is not something one person can shoulder quietly - and it comes with significant financial cost. Which is why I need your support. Silencing the media for asking uncomfortable questions is not acceptable. It suggests a leadership structure that has become resistant to any scrutiny or debate. This is textbook “chilling effect”, where participants feel reluctant to speak openly for fear of consequences. The NSW Parliament itself cautioned Racing NSW only months ago about conduct that may discourage scrutiny. It is deeply concerning that this behaviour is allowed to continue unchecked. To suppress a valid, objective discussion about CEO tenure - a cornerstone of accountability in any organisation - is a clear failure of governance. I am speaking out because many others feel they cannot. I am standing for the trainer or jockey who fears professional consequences for expressing concern. I am standing for breeders whose integrity was publicly accused in the parliamentary inquiry. And I am standing for an industry I love - whose resources are routinely being used to fund costly litigation. Racing NSW is currently engaged in Supreme Court proceedings against the ATC and has previously funded defamation litigation for Mr V’landys. When asked whether Racing NSW is funding this personal defamation action, Mr V’landys did not deny it. Every dollar Racing NSW spends on legal action is taking away from trainers, owners, participants – as well as equine welfare, infrastructure and the future of our sport. NSW industry governance has consequences beyond NSW. Through the structure of Racing Australia, it is a national concern, affecting participants across the country. Because the Racing Pattern underpins the international bloodstock market, it also has global consequences. I am prepared to defend this action, but I need your help. Defending a Supreme Court action of this scale is designed to be prohibitively expensive - a strategy of attrition. I have established a dedicated legal defence fund to ensure we can respond properly. 👉 gofund.me/fe0b46710 Whether your contribution is small or significant, your support helps ensure that accountability and open discussion remain part of our industry’s future. I am going to defend this case because the principle matters. This fund has been established solely to meet the legal costs of defending this proceeding and to ensure that accountability and open discussion remain part of our industry’s future. With gratitude and determination 🙏 Vicky Leonard

Winning the last, ⚪️🔴🟢Toussaint (Tivaci x Oceans Eight) gets the job done to cap off the day for the stable with a well-deserved win at @goulburnraces. The filly jumped cleanly and settled midfield before @AndrewAdkins103 gave her a little squeeze around the bend, responding strongly and coming over her competitors late to land the prize right on the line.💪💪 🙌Well done to all her connections.

@davepband I think there is still value particularly in the staying ranks and in NZ doing a bit of work on pedigrees and on type and being a little bit patient. One of the racing syndicates I run targets 3yr old fillies who can stay. Is a process but worthwhile. We target Karaka.

I tend to feel that the only way I could make money buying horses would be to use the data to buy a tried horse that has shown rating ability. Would need to get one with a fixable issue though, as there's a million eyes on these now. I remember watching the Godolphin cast off sale, and the prices some of them went for were just insane.

Was R1 Wyong on Saturday the worst (NSW) Sat 2YO race of the year? Royal Exile looked promising going in, but unless there's an issue in the verified times (one would hope not), then they came home like slugs off only an even tempo. Every race had major official timing errors on the day as well though - Whinchat's race was in reality more than a second (~6.1 lengths) slower than the official time clocked it!

Still early doors but would want to see a few more in that 95+ range soon. I've wondered for a while now - pretty much since Mick Kent brought it up on radio - whether these juveniles are just bred for quick sale, pumped full of hormones to look good in the ring and perhaps we're seeing weaker generations as a result.

We’ve published the 23,000-word transcript of my @nytimes colleagues' interview with President Trump and opened it for reader comments this morning. We’ve written stories off the interview but also think it's important for readers to see the president's words for themselves.

Yearling sales in Australia/NZ are upon us - it’s like a second Christmas for breeders, vendors and enthusiasts. Make 2026 sales the year that you visit smaller vendors that have nice yearlings with good pedigrees, they just don't get the attention or publicity of the mainstream vendors With cost pressures spiralling in the breeding industry and less number of mares being bred [the 27-28 sales lot numbers will be interesting] “these vendors need and want your support now” Good smaller operators like @MPmeredithpark @noblebend @Raheenstud @grenvillestud and so many more are happy to spend meaningful time with you and show their draft. And if you buy a horse - they don’t all need to be at a juggernaut stable for success. Have a chat at the sales with hard working and successful trainers like @JackBruceRacing @kimwaugh6 @MitchBeerRacing @PrideRacing @pstokesracing @munceracing @gelagotisracing They will all be happy to stop and chat with you at the auctions. I look forward to catching up with so many people at the sales this year - enjoy all data on the web pages regarding the sale in the “yearlings section” is complimentary progenyconsulting.net/rivers-of-gold

The arrogance and ignorance within Racing NSW and its hierarchy is clearly and rightly called to account by @TTRAusNZ in this well-penned statement.

Anyone who has interacted with Vicky - or seen her tireless work trying to correct the misinformation around racing and improve its social license - simply must be outraged by the allegations from Peter Vlandys. As a (for profit) start up in racing, I know how hard it is to get off the ground and try to make a positive difference. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to keep pushing down brick walls as a not-for-profit and sinking so much unpaid time into it. @vickyleo if I can help Kick Up for Racing by donating some developer time, and/or some funds to help the cause I would love to. I am a small fish but I want to help. Hit me up!
Vicky Leonard@vickyleo

Vicky Leonard Personal Statement A Concerns Notice to TTR issued by Peter V’landys makes false, shockingly damaging allegations about Lindy and me, twisting National Thoroughbred Week and Pony Racing to be for our personal financial gain. We have now received a further letter today following the TTRs statement on this matter. It makes me sick to my stomach that I have to defend our work - delivered off our own bat because our leaders wouldn’t do it - but this is how low our standards of governance have fallen.
