Lump on York to win Leaguen2 next season. Don't believe the bullshit takes that this is a weak league. Whoever went up today will go straight through to League One.

I didnt watch the game, am I right in thinking that if Rochdale fans hadn’t invaded the pitch, they would’ve been promoted and there wouldn’t have been the added time for York to score?

@TheConnorCain Looks miles in but the Rochdale pitch invasion was completely understandable and not remotely relevant. They don’t add extra minutes to punish a team for the fans celebrating an amazing late goal

@JayPVFC January’s recruitment makes me think the problem is still here. It was always difficult given our league position but Sherif was woeful at Rotherham and we snapped him up. Need actions not words now

Our recruitment woeful all season but we as fans don’t actually know who signed most of these players, was it Moore or Darnbrough? Just like we don’t know if it was Hancock or Carol who refused to sack Moore when we all called for it in November. Should all be embarrassed #pvfc

Is 3UP something EFL clubs would have to vote on? How does it work? I’d imagine if that’s the case, it would be almost impossible to get over the line?
National League on DAZN@DAZN_NationalLg

🚨 Rochdale and York City have released the following joint statement: “This Saturday’s game brings an end to one of the most thrilling, exciting and unpredictable title races in football history. Both ourselves and Rochdale have the chance to write our names in National League history. The National League is no longer a non-league competition. It is effectively a League 3, with fully professional clubs operating at a level equal to or higher than many of those in League 2. We both understand how important this game is to both clubs and supporters. We both pledge now that whatever happens tomorrow, we will both continue to fight for 3UP. Both clubs sit on over 100 points. One of us will have to fight once more in the National League Play-Offs. However, we both strongly believe that this shouldn’t have to be the case. We call on the National League, Football Regulator, EFL and Premier League to come together immediately and resolve this issue, so that we do not have to highlight this injustice year after year. For both sets of supporters attending the Crown Oil Arena this weekend, we say thank you for being with us all season. The passion you’ve shown for both clubs has been felt across the world. This game will be seen far and wide. We want to showcase this league for all its potential. Keep your support in the stands, not on the pitch, and let’s all protect the game we love. Thank you! Rochdale AFC & York City FC”

@FplMode @AndyMitten It’s interesting how these 2 teams being so far ahead has prompted this discussion. If anything, it shows how uncompetitive the NL is. Too easy for a York to buy their way up with the far more lax financial rules

@AndyMitten Top two should get promoted. Such an old style. Not sure why they haven’t changed this yet. Non-League doesn’t mean part time footballers anymore.

@Bobbinpvfc @rjb_1998 Weird take- when you consider that every team that comes up walks all over L2 teams and have never been any where near being demoted- in the entire history of the current system. 👍🏻

@The92Bible Injustice 🤣 The NL is the most uncompetitive league in England. Dominated by 1 or 2 teams every season. Was fascinated by this game but they can both feck off now. Good luck with EFL FFP rules York 👍

@Will_ONeill @jedialbiceleste @hicksydan It’s getting ridiculous how teams utterly dominate the NL. It’s the most uncompetitive league in England. The only thing that makes it interesting is the lack of promotion spots into the EFL

@jedialbiceleste @hicksydan There needs to be some deal reached involving FFP and an extra place. It is getting ridiculous now. And I am in favour whether we go down or not.

@Invisiblebear84 I don’t agree. Halifax wouldn’t get 30 points in League 2. If the top half of the NL is decent, why are York and Rochdale so far ahead? And even if it is true, they can build League 1 squads on the current financial rules in the NL

@Bobbinpvfc Pretty sure the latter would. The bottom of that a league Two, there is justification for atleast 3 teams to go down. If we were L2, I’d still be overwhelmingly in favour of 3 UP. Top half of that NL beat majority of the bottom half of League Two.

@Invisiblebear84 Would they? Would the EFL clubs vote it in? And would the NL clubs vote to abide by EFL aligned FFP rules? I’d guess no on both counts but I might be wrong

@Bobbinpvfc You can campaign all ya want but play off systems won’t be removed at any level (in fact - they’ll continue to increase). Carlisle don’t deserve to win the league but a traditional play off run seems a valid outcome for 95 points. 2 auto n 4 team P/O all would agree on

@adam3oxley Why? NL teams are not subject to the same FFP restrictions at EFL clubs and the fact there is always one or two teams so far ahead of the rest is a testament to how uncompetitive the NL is. Football League statues should be hard to achieve

Well said York AND Rochdale 👇🏻 It should be 3UP 3DOWN between the top five tiers of English men’s football, and it should have happened a while ago. Let’s hope this message gathers momentum and the regulator can assist.

@Bobbinpvfc @JayPVFC @mattdoctorwho74 As it is, we’ve now got one of the most exciting one-off final days in history. With two up automatically it wouldn’t matter & eventually the quality of that league would level out to mediocrity because the bottleneck gets alleviated.

Spot on, a third automatic promotion spot has been needed for years, it’s about time the pressure is put on to make it happen. Scunthorpe, Southend, Rochdale, Carlisle & Hartlepool just many of the big clubs in that league. It’s League 3 no doubt.
