@BornFried94@TheMG3D Right, so you couldn't answer my question because it renders your reason retarded. So try again. Why should it impress me? There are 10,000 unimpressive things intrinsic to the human experience.
@homosmoker@LCLChicago1966@raphousetv7 Pronunciation is so greatly influenced by your accent and the culture you are raised in. That's one of the mechanism of linguistic evolution.
@BornFried94@LCLChicago1966@raphousetv7 Teaching children how to speak goes beyond "establishing a foundation", it includes correcting mispronounciation, wrong declension, etc.
@homosmoker@LCLChicago1966@raphousetv7 There's a vast difference between establishing a foundation and prescriptivism, don't be intellectually dishonest.
@BornFried94@LCLChicago1966@raphousetv7 Prescriptivism is how parents teach their children to speak. If that's permitted, it means prescriptivism is not inherently wrong or evil.
@BornFried94@LCLChicago1966@raphousetv7 "You can't stop this" talk about a strawman, nobody claimed prescriptivism is able to freeze language in place for a thousand years. It's about slowing it down, maintaining a higher level of continuity in language between generations. It's like speed limits.
@homosmoker@LCLChicago1966@raphousetv7 That's a straw man argument, not one is saying that parents shouldn't teach kids how to speak, quite the opposite actually. You need a baseline, but the baseline changes with the generations, just as your manner of speaking changes throughout life. You can't stop this.
@BornFried94@LCLChicago1966@raphousetv7 Should parents be banned from teachinh their children how to speak? This is the most common form of prescriptivism (scary word) in the world after all. If language changed so fat that the next generation was unable to read something written pre-WW2, would that be a victory for
@SpursCulture If you had asked me 2 years ago, I would have said hell no. Now, I might be open to it. I do think a veteran presence, and on that has been the first option on a championship team, would be beneficial for some of our guys. Plus he doesn't want a leadership role anymore.
@carleypero I agree with all of that, save for the voter part. I would be shocked if he ever gave enough of a shit to vote in any election. Given historical voter turnout for his age group, it's statistically likely.
“Shane Gillis is a lib! Shane Gillis is MAGA!” Shane Gillis is the median 30 something white dude voter that thinks gay people are cool and violence is bad but doesn’t really focus on anything important
