Which opinion about history will get you like this?

@BritzerHist Europe didn't join a market. They creaed the market. Slaves were in Africa yes. But they were not traded like it when the Europeans came.

A mortal blow to the Tories as a serious national party is coming. Nothing less than those traitors deserve. Bookmark this tweet.

WONDERFUL update video from Chagossian First Minister Misley Mandarin from the #Chagos Islands. Some lessons for us all too! 🇮🇴🇬🇧

@MbaAristide My brother in christ. Are u aware that the present nation of Ghana is a fractured version of the Ashanti empire? They put the wollof people in Ghana today, do u know that britain insisted on slaves for any trade to go on

They can say whatever they want. We will always be proud of our ancestors who shed their blood. Our history is not shame, it's strength and honor .

‼️POLL | Should UK pay reparations to countries affected by transatlantic slave trade? (by ethnicity) -- White -- ✅ Should: 19% ❌ Should not: 66% -- Black -- ✅ Should: 71% ❌ Should not: 15% Poll: @YouGov, 11-17 April 2025

Acting like the Ashanti Empire and European powers shared equal responsibility is flat-out misleading. Slavery existed in many forms globally, yes but the Transatlantic Slave Trade was something entirely different. It was racialized, industrialized, and scaled by Europe millions transported across oceans in a system Africans neither created nor controlled. Europe didn’t just “drive demand” they built the ships, financed the trade, created the markets, and enforced it with military power. That’s why it became global. Reducing it to “Africans were willing partners” ignores power imbalance, coercion, and the fact that Europe dictated the terms of the entire system. If you’re rejecting “selective history,” then don’t stop halfway. Tell the full story including who engineered and profited most from it.

Funny how people suddenly become “historians” only when it’s time to drag Africa. Yes, the Ashanti Empire existed in a world where slavery was already global but let’s not rewrite history to clean up Europe’s image. The Transatlantic Slave Trade was built, industrialized, and brutally expanded by European powers, especially the United Kingdom. Trying to shift the blame onto Africans while ignoring who created the demand, ships, and global system is dishonest at best.

You might describe it as the Polanski paradox. The party which calls itself Green, which has concern for the environment as its raison d’être, has never been more popular. Four Green MPs returned at the last general election. Victory in the recent Gorton and Denton by-election. Local election gains in May predicted to be sweeping. Running second in many national opinion polls, and in the projected seat tally for the Scottish parliament. ✍️ The Spectator Article | spectator.com/article/the-to…
