‘Healthy breast tissue’ is removed all the time for different reasons - breast reductions, gynecomastias, in my case I had one ‘healthy’ breast removed for cancer prevention-the question is choice & the privacy to make it with your doctor.

When did the removal of healthy breasts become something to celebrate? It’s a question I began to ask after my own experience of breast cancer. Last year, the prospect of losing a breast made me realise just how attached I was to a part of my body I’d barely thought about before. I still live with the after-effects of surgery. “Top surgery” and “double mastectomy” both involve the removal of breast tissue.
