Why I’m loading up on Shohei Ohtani’s digital rookies ⚾💥 1️⃣
In the physical world, you can walk into a hobby shop and trade across any brand or sport.
In the digital world, you can trade with anyone in the world — but not across brands or sports.
That’s going to change. You’ll be able to trade with anyone, anywhere, anytime in the world, across brands and sports. When it does happen, digital collectibles will REALLY take off. 2️⃣
LeBron’s Top Shot rookie set has only 10 total moments.
Each /10 floors around $25 K, giving the whole run a ~$250 K market cap. 3️⃣
Shohei Ohtani’s Candy MLB Rookie collection is different.
It has tiers — Core (/130), Uncommon (/89), Rare (/50), Epic (/30), and a 1/1 LEGO.
LeBron’s demand is concentrated; Ohtani’s is distributed across a healthy rarity ladder. 4️⃣
That structure temporarily compresses prices today, but in a mature market those tiers actually support grail values — the same way physical Gold /50 and Orange /25 parallels do for Topps Chrome. 5️⃣
Physical comps 👇
• 2018 Bowman Chrome Orange Auto /25 → $533 K
• 2018 Topps Chrome Orange /25 → $40 K – $70 K
• 2018 Gold /50 → $30 K + 6️⃣
Candy digital rookie listings 👇
• 1/1 LEGO ≈ $5 K +- (I just bought it!)
• /30 Epic ≈ $140 That’s the digital equivalent of a /25 Orange Refractor rookie — for $140. 7️⃣
LeBron /10 = $25 K each.
Ohtani /30 = $140 each.
Adjust ⅓ for the bigger run and ×½ for tier dilution → ≈ $4 K fair value.
At $140 today, that’s ≈ 28–30× undervalued vs LeBron.
Compared with physical Ohtani rookies ($40 K–$500 K), they’re ≈ 285–3,500× cheaper. People have speculated his physical 1/1 would sell for millions in comparison to the $5k I just paid for the digital. 8️⃣
Candy’s still on Palm, not yet bridged to Ethereum, and most collectors aren’t here yet.
Once cross-chain trading and open marketplaces arrive, price curves will separate like they do in physical cards. 9️⃣
I’m not betting on hype.
I’m betting on market structure catching up to logic.
While others wait, I’m accumulating the /30 Epics at $150 – $200. 🔟
If these reach even just 1 % (and I think it will be a lot more in the next 5 to 20 years) of physical rookie parity, that’s a 10–30× return.
If they ever match the current digital basketball maturity, they could be worth $4 000+ each — roughly a 28× move. Digital baseball is early.
Ohtani is global. Japan is the second largest collectibles market in the world, and who wants to risk fraud, the time and effort and potential for damage, to send physical cards across the Pacific Ocean? Would you send a physical letter or an email to Japan?
I’m getting positioned now. ⚾🔥 Update: Since writing this the Ohtani floor epic increased to $999, still at least 4x less than what they will be when everything is on the same marketplace. @CandyDigital @NBATopShot @ToppsNFTs @PaniniAmerica #Ohtani #worldseries

23-year-old Connelly Early will be the youngest pitcher to start a postseason game for the Red Sox since 21-year-old Babe Ruth in 1916 Babe Ruth pitched all 14 innings of a 2-1 Red Sox win over the Brooklyn Robins in Game 2 of the World Series. He threw 145 pitches (h/t @SlangsOnSports)
