Recruitment and retention have been big problems for the RCN in recent years. But perhaps times are changing. DND announced that over 7,000 people signed up for the Cdn Armed Forces over the past year. It isn't clear how many will serve in the RCN, but it's good news anyway.

Just wondering whatever happened to the Defence Industrial Strategy. The Minister of Defence said it would be released “After budget and before Christmas." To be fair, he didn't mention Christmas 2025.

A few days ago, Seaspan officially delivered the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel, CCGS Naalak Nappaaluk, to Canadian Coast Guard. It's fourth large vessel, and second class of ship, to be built by Seaspan under National Shipbuilding Strategy. But still waiting for JSS.

There's still plenty of time but maybe start thinking about what you want to write. This year submit an essay to annual CNR essay contest. You don't need to start your engine yet, but you could start scraping the windshield in preparation. Interesting to see that last week, Cdn Minister of Defence officially established Cdn Joint Forces Command (CJFC), designed to strengthen leadership, coordination and accountability for joint military capabilities across the CAF. Reflects shift toward integrated defence ops.
