On looking at what you intend to do. It will be painful for the people that need help. You will pay less tax. When you say painful, you don't mean to you. You'll be just fine. @RupertLowe10

Just 20 accounts drive more than a third of the activity in Stephen Lennon’s (aka Tommy Robinson’s) online network. Our Data Desk analysed 13,000+ posts and key interactions for State of Hate 2026 to map how his ecosystem works. Here’s what we found 👇 hopenothate.org.uk/state-of-hate-…

John Porter. As yet unknown author.
@Cell_less @ultimapaul @Artemisfornow Governments have four core responsibilities, imo. 1. Security (food, energy, borders) 2. Setting boundaries in law (not rules) 3. Infrastructure (i.e. policing, services, education, basic welfare). 4. Ensuring freedoms (I.e. speech, movement). Other than that? Leave us alone.

If I’m understanding this correctly, foreign students get a visa to come to the U.K. and then take out U.K. taxpayer funded student loans … and then leave the UK and don’t bother repaying. At last count over £13 BILLION is untraceable. There is a simple solution to this!

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow I don't see how limiting or discouraging access to higher education, and accepting lower job opportunities, sits comfortably with this.

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow For me, a government should be aiming to make lives better, and therefore increasing the happiness, of the people that live there. It links to increased drive and motivation, ambition, hopefulness and belief in themselves to achieve goals.

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow I enjoy my life most of the time. I can find it is simple things or little wins. But joy is not something the state is responsible for. Neither is big business. I feel we make our own joy.

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow Because what's the point in life if we can't have moments of joy and pursue happiness? Does it not feel dystopian to you to say I should not desire a life with joy?!

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow You mentioned China. They have a very diff approach to AI development, focusing on narrow AI. One theory is that because it is more controllable. Compared to the US that pushes for agentic AI with access to all kinds of sensitive systems, with huge scope for catastrophic error.

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow You must realise that AI is being developed globally and that not every country will want to use it for the betterment of humanity. We will be “swept along” by the need to match or protect ourselves against those that would do us harm.

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow But you said we can't change anything and what we want doesn't matter. So there's no point in fighting for what you believe in, regardless of what it is. It's just agreeing to be swept along with whatever those in power want.

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow I am far from apathetic. I always vote and was a member of a political party briefly. But I’m a realist too. You can’t uninvent technology. People fought against the spinning machines, trains, cars, etc. But they still happened. We may be able to guide new things but not stop.

@JohnTShallow @ultimapaul @Artemisfornow Yes, because it is unfortunately a misinformed understanding of AI. It's also a consumer perspective shaped by AI hype and PR, rather than a computer science perspective or one informed by how cognitive and psychological processes like empathy work.

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow That's why I asked you about hope earlier. I get from your answers such a sense of resignation. It's like what's the point of trying anything. What's the point of me doing any work concerning policy? What's the point in voting? Apathy is demoralising and creates sick societies.

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow What you prefer will be irrelevant. These changes will happen. We see all too many cases when mistakes are made by humans involved in medicine. AI will make some but learn not to do the same again, unlike humans.

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow So say you have a couple that came here in 1990 (36 years ago), they have kids born in the UK, maybe even grandkids. You'd send the grandparents away, splitting up the family? Honestly sounds cruel to me. They've likely paid more tax than Jim Ratcliffe!

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow Conveniently the government doesn’t release figures for immigration going back far enough! However, it is estimated that between 14 and 22 million people have migrated to the UK since 1990. You are welcome to check these figures. So my 15 million may be a conservative number.

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow My children all have jobs that are difficult to automate and AI will have a limited impact on. My grandson is only 4! The 15 million is accurate and with AI creating mass unemployment it is logical we do not fund people from other countries.

Palantir, a US spy-tech firm, has been given access to millions of NHS patient records. Its founder has said the NHS should be 'ripped up'. Join me in calling on the government to end the dangerous Palantir contract. you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/stop…

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow That's what the AI hype says of course. OpenAI is hemorrhaging money on a scale that is unprecedented. Billions down the drain. What do you tell the young people in your family to feel hopeful about? I don't know what to say about the 15 mil figure other than it's absurd.

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow AI is learning all the time. It is extremely young at present. It will improve very quickly. There is little accountability with public employees at present. Most have been promoted above their abilities anyway. We can start with the re migration of 15 million immigrants.

@ultimapaul @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow AI gets stuff wrong all the time, it causes skill decline, and when it does, there's no accountability. Is that not concerning? And what do you do with the mass unemployment you propose ?

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow Making a policy change is the easy bit. Getting civil servants and public employees to carry them out properly is the difficult bit. Another reason to want AI to devastate job numbers in both sectors. Drain he swamp.

@Cell_less @Artemisfornow @JohnTShallow All the taxes my businesses and I pay are from my effort, risks and enterprise. They total way more than I end up with. I DO mind paying tax that various government organisations manage poorly. We need a massive reset in every aspect of the public sector in the UK.
