@brollbenny But lord knows sometimes I want to continue that cycle so badly.

While on the topic of parenting I want to make you think about something the next time your kid talks back to you:
You created such an unbelievably safe space for them that they feel completely safe talking that smack.
Sure, it's a problem in itself, but if you're like me, and think "my parent would have slapped that taste out of my mouth" and then simply tell the kiddo that they lost a privilege or some such thing instead of doing what your parents would have done...
congrats, you broke the cycle

@EODHappyCaptain Man my first 30 days were rough. The previous CO had pencil whipped so much it wasn't funny

I left the guy who took over for me 2 notes. I told him when something bad happened, to open the first letter. When something bad happened again, open the second.
The first read: blame me. You’re new. I’ll take the heat.
The next letter read: you only get one freebie. This is on you. Good luck.

One thing I learned early in leadership was that you don’t get to blame things on your predecessor. You get 30 days to assess, plan & improve all the things. After that, bringing up the previous guy just makes you look incompetent. Own the issues, they’re your fault now
