Congratulations to our Youth Leadership Program Graduates! From March 14 to March 21, 2026, a group of 32 students took part in the AbbyPD Youth Leadership Program—an intensive and inspiring program designed to help young people grow as confident, capable leaders. The AbbyPD Youth Leadership Program provides high school students with an exceptional opportunity to develop both personal and team-based leadership skills through immersive experiences focused on policing, public safety, and community service. Over the span of eight days and seven nights, participants engage in dynamic and challenging activities aimed at unlocking their full leadership potential. Guided by experienced local police officers, students take part in interactive presentations, hands‑on policing simulations, and meaningful lessons in social responsibility, communication, and life skills. This practical, team‑oriented environment pushes them mentally and physically while fostering teamwork, resilience, and personal growth. Open to students in grades 10 through 12 from public and private schools across Abbotsford, the program introduces participants to essential concepts such as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, police procedures, emergency response, forensics, self‑defense, and more—equipping them with knowledge that supports both civic awareness and lifelong leadership. Congratulations on making it through the week! Your hard work, resilience, and positive attitude carried you through every challenge. Be proud of what you accomplished—you pushed yourself, grew as leaders, and finished strong. Well done! 👏 Thank you to the Abbotsford Police Foundation for supporting this and many other AbbyPD programs! youtu.be/OkSqzyl9Esc?si…

Canada’s police chiefs, through the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, welcome the introduction of Bill C‑22, which takes steps to modernize lawful access to digital evidence with legal safeguards. Police need modern tools to pursue the serious crimes of today.

Following a productive meeting with the Prime Minister on Thursday, I met with MP Sukhman Gill and MP Larry Brock, the federal Shadow Minister for Justice and Attorney General, to continue advancing much‑needed legislative changes and improved justice system resourcing. The message remains focused on working across party lines to strengthen community safety and ensuring a justice system that meets today’s challenges. @AbbyPoliceDept

I had the chance to meet with Prime Minister Carney to discuss the police response to the extortion crisis affecting BC and other regions of Canada. I appreciated the chance for my colleagues and me to provide an update on our efforts and explore how the federal government can help. Thank you to the PM for taking the time to meet with police leaders and for taking time to meet with and thank some of our police members who are working hard on the frontline response.

A Message from Chief Constable Colin Watson During the first few weeks of January, our community has seen just how busy—and how challenging—our work can be. I want to take a moment to express how incredibly proud I am of the men and women of the Abbotsford Police Department. Despite an exceptionally demanding start to the year, including the tragedy of two homicides, our team has demonstrated professionalism, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. They continue to step up under immense pressure, supported one another, and continued to serve our community with integrity, compassion, and resolve. I also want to emphasize the critical role our civilian staff play behind the scenes. Their dedication, expertise, and tireless efforts are essential to every investigation, every response, and every service we provide. From communications and records to investigative support and victim services, their work often goes unseen—but it is absolutely vital. Equally important are our volunteers, who generously give their time and energy in support of our department and our community. Whether assisting with community programs, operational support, or outreach initiatives, our volunteers are a force multiplier. Their commitment, professionalism, and willingness to serve make a meaningful difference every day, and we simply could not do this work as effectively without them. To our sworn members, civilian professionals, and volunteers: thank you for everything you do—especially during the most challenging moments. Your dedication does not go unnoticed, and our community is safer and stronger because of you. With Respect, Colin Watson

I've heard many positive comments about how we communicate with our community. Here is a summary of our approach. 👍
Abbotsford Police Department@AbbyPoliceDept

Strengthening Transparency in 2025—and Beyond During 2025 many of you have likely noticed a change in our communications approach to community. Our goal was to enhance our communication as we believe that transparency is the foundation of trust between law enforcement and the community. At the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD), we believe that an informed public is an empowered public. That’s why we are committed to sharing information openly, honestly, and in a timely manner. What Transparency Means to Us •Clear Communication: We provide accurate updates on incidents, investigations, and community safety initiatives through our official channels, including social media, press releases, and community meetings. •Accountability: When mistakes happen, we acknowledge them and take corrective action. •Public Access: From crime statistics to policy changes, we make key information available on our website so residents can understand how decisions are made and how resources are allocated. •Community Engagement: Transparency isn’t just about sharing information—it’s about listening. We invite feedback through our community pop-ups, surveys, community meetings and partnerships with local organizations. Why It Matters - Transparency strengthens relationships, reduces misinformation, and ensures that policing remains a collaborative effort. By being open about our actions and decisions, AbbyPD demonstrates that public safety is a shared responsibility. So, What’s Next – What would you like to see? Some of our ideas for 2026 involve video ride-a-longs with our frontline operational teams to give you a glimpse into their work. From our Traffic Unit to our Patrol Teams. Were also looking to you to let us know what things you would like to see. Please comment below or email us your ideas to communications@abbypd.ca We will continue to expand our transparency efforts, whether through real-time updates during critical incidents, at community events or our community pop-ups, or educational campaigns. Because when you know what we’re doing—and why—we can work together to keep Abbotsford safe.
