Chinese Embassy in PNG

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and PNG, the Chinese Embassy in PNG, in partnership with the University of Papua New Guinea, is holding the “China in My Eyes: Painting & Video Competition”.

During the visit, the hospital ship will provide high-quality and free medical services to local communities, and will also carry out activities such as courtesy visits and meetings, professional exchanges, and friendly match.

The visit of the Silk Road Ark marks the third visit of a Chinese hospital ship to PNG, following the visits of the Peace Ark hospital ship in 2014 and 2018.

Commander of the hospital ship Rear Admiral Fang Jinsong expressed gratitude to the PNG side for its warm reception and said that the hospital ship will provide high-quality medical services to the PNG people, contributing to the China-PNG friendship.

Minister Kapavore welcomed the hospital ship’s visit, thanked China for its long-standing support to PNG’s economic and social development, and expressed hope for further deepening China-PNG health cooperation.

The Chinese side is ready to work hand in hand with all PNG friends to further deepen the China-PNG comprehensive strategic partnership for the greater benefits of both countries and peoples.

Ambassador Yang emphasized that the visit of the Silk Road Ark Hospital Ship demonstrates the profound friendship of the Chinese people toward the people of PNG, and is also a concrete demonstration of China’s commitment to building a community with a shared future for humanity.

The Chinese hospital ship Silk Road Ark will pay a goodwill visit to Port Moresby and offer free medical treatment to local citizens from 9th to 13th April 2026.

In the Rabaul internment camp, not only Chinese but also citizens from Australia, the UK, the US, and Southeast Asian countries were enslaved by the Japanese invaders, and thousands lost their lives. Cherish the memory of history and value peace!

Of these, nearly 700 were killed or tortured to death in the camp. These are still several cemeteries for Chinese solders in Rabual. According to the Chinese tradition, the Chinese Embassy goes every year to pay respects and commemorate the fallen compatriots.

On April 4, one day before China’s Qingming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day), Minister Counsellor Pang Hanzhao and other representatives of the Chinese Embassy in PNG held a commemorative ceremony.
