Let’s not kid ourselves, your President isn’t blocking this out of any deep concern for Ireland’s immigration mess. The real reason for sending it to council is what’s buried in the bill, expanded powers to detain asylum seekers while their claims are investigated, without proper legal advice at the start, and tighter rules around family reunification to reduce more entering the country many of whom will be a burden on the system. That’s what this is really about, so don’t be thinking your president is doing this because the majority of Irish people have enough of the chaos, in fact quite the opposite.

This is quite disturbing and as close to “1984” as we have got so far.
